interestrateripoff
Pupil, 14, is put on police database after sending a naked picture of himself to a girl who then shared it around their schoolThe teenager, who is from the north of England, is said to have been 'flirting' with a girl of the same age when he sent the explicit image from his bedroom through messaging application Snapchat. I do wonder how fair it is that he is the only one to be put on the database when it was the girl who shared it all around school, she was the one to distribute child porn and yet from the article it doesn't state she too was put on the list. libspero
If they keep this up, going on The List will soon carry all the social opprobrium of getting a camera speeding ticket Sounds like a pretty predictable outcome if you're going to criminalise normal teenage social behaviour. Battenberg
Sounds like a pretty predictable outcome if you're going to criminalise normal teenage social behaviour. Raised many times on this forum in the past. Indeed. I recently mentioned how I'd told my boys not to take any dick pics and send them and, if they received any naked images then they were to delete them. Someone here kindly pointed out the legal implications of this and I've had to discuss it again with them. It isn't a comfortable conversation but absolutely necessary now. longtomsilver
I walked in on my two children f.6 and b.4 taking pictures of each others bums on my iPad this morning. Perfectly natural for innocent minds. I told them not to do it again and deleted the offending items. It's frightening that they were putting my custody of them at risk esp. as photos can upload themselves autonomously now.
porca misèria
Today's story is a Good Thing: In a witch hunt, things like this and far worse are inevitable. It's mostly harmless. It serves to shine a light on witch hunting and invite public ridicule and outrage.

interestrateripoff
Sexting could give you police record for life, children warned after teenager was branded a 'paedophile' for naked selfie Millions of schoolchildren across Britain have been warned they could end up on a police database for life, prosecuted or forced to sign the sex offenders' register for texting a naked photo of themselves. The irony being lost on the lawmakers is that if there are millions on the database it effectively becomes useless because everyone will be a paedophile which then means you need another database for actual paedophiles and one for kids who send each other pictures of themselves. frozen_out
The most insightful thing I've heard on the current government penchant for policies like this was from a colleague: "When you suspect everyone then logically you're no further on than suspecting no one" He was talking about daft levels of security at airports, but it applies equally to this. Si1
I remember raising this here a couple of years ago and being told I was gullible Has been rife for 3 or 4 years, certainly ain't the world I grew up in. "You show me yours and I'll show you mine" seems charming in comparison P Fair play. Is this Theresa May, like so many home secretaries before her, turning into a little Hitler? More seriously, this is naïve behaviour at best, and rules out many future productive jobs for these children now, which is good for none of us. Hail the Tripod
It's so ludicrous that it's genuinely hard to believe anyone in authority could take it so far. But the world is more f**ked up than anyone realises... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/north-carolina-teenager-charged-as-an-adult-for-sexting-photos-of-himself-10484292.html A 17-year-old boy could go to prison for 10 years after being charged as an adult for 'sexting' his girlfriend with explicit photos of himself. Cormega Copening, from North Carolina – where the age of criminal responsibility is 16 – is facing five counts of second-degree and third-degree sexual exploitation. The charges were brought after local authorities discovered that Mr Copening and his girlfriend, both 16 at the time, allegedly sent explicit photos to each other, the Fayetteville Observer has reported. It is understood that no one else saw the photos and it is not clear why Mr Copening’s phone was searched. Both teenagers were charged as adult perpetrators of the sexual exploitation of minors – themselves – for making and possessing the photos. interestrateripoff
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11926455/Revenge-porn-Teen-girls-arent-surprised-by-nude-selfies-being-shared.html ..... It’s hard to know to what extent this is happening in the UK, as many of these girls would never report the incidents to the police or even view it as a crime. Instead they see it as ‘sexting gone wrong’, and just another humiliating part of school life. They aren't even shocked when it happens, instead as one girl tells me: "You just wait for it to die down and happen to someone else." Though statistics cannot tell a full picture, it has just emerged that police have dealt with cases of children as young as 12 being affected by revenge porn. 'It's ubiquitous and worrying'Jon Brown, head of sexual abuse services at the NSPCC, tells me: “It does appear to be increasingly common, even to the point of being ubiquitous. It’s worrying. Girls feel they have little choice but to do it. They feel they’re in a lose lose situation. They’re either ‘sluts’ or ‘not up for it’. “They just want to be part of the in crowd – it’s a really invidious position they find themselves in. All that stuff that’s gone on in schools forever about certain girls and boys being seen in certain ways is now magnified and amplified a million times by the way it can be transmitted.” Probably most kids are doing this and with smart phones it's impossible to end.
