And for a 1920s/1930s, pretty standard house (ugly rear) in Country Durham, that's costly to heat, maintain, and needs a bit of updating inside. Also on a 1/4m RIghtmove search, mostly surrounded by lower end terraces/semis (partial value.. but not enough to rush and set up a business in area to me). £380,000 buys you a nice house in areas surrounded by good schools, and many other such nice houses, in top end areas - in other locations. For Example, I occupy 80m2 of 300m2 buildings that I own and 5 acres of land and my council tax is less than £1k pa and I get my bins emptied every week. Electricity and water are less than in the UK and the locals are pleased that people are prepared to maintain old buildings that would otherwise fall down and also bring in money that helps maintain local services.
