200p
'I grew up in New York, I went to private schools with many of these people and I wouldn't embarrass them. I knew them before they took over and ran these huge firms, and they knew me before I was a movie star - I like to protect them. Not everyone on Wall Street is a pig. But one of these guys has a motorcycle that costs a million dollars that is flown all around the world with him. These guys go shooting in Spain, they have the Vertu $70,000 mobile phone. Right now they're into G5 Gulfstream jets - some have more than one. It is a rarefied world. Everyone outdoes each other.' Is greed good? Orsino
A Vertu mobile phone costs $70,000!? I was hired to write some of the 'exclusive content' for that phone. Destination guides in fact. I got paid badly to write cobblers I'd researched on Google. So did pretty much everyone else on the project. $70,000?! I had no idea! What a bunch of ostentatious mugs. Having said that, I know some guys who work at a concierge service that has membership of about £800 a year. If you phone them up they'll recommend a restaurant for you. They get most of their recommendations from Time Out guides stacked on their desks. If you want to pay £800 for someone to read out a guide book description to you then I suppose you would regard that as money well spent.

There was a mobile phone with combined pocket watch advertised in the FT magazine a week or two ago for GBP 230,000. And no, it wasn't encrusted with gemstones etc. just steel , glass, ebony but with a tourbillon (sp)movement for the pocket watch. I'll take two............. The interesting thing is that, despite having so much money that they can spend on stuff like this, these guys will scream blue murder at the thought of paying more tax. Even though if they all paid more tax, it would make absolutely no difference to their status games, the relative wealth will be the same.

True, But getting them to actually pay more tax is the tricky bit, and can cost more than its worth in a multitude of ways Ideologically I agree, except its more of a practical issue than ideological one, which is my general problem with socialism
