  1. Too many of these programmes are all style and no/little content... Reminds me of a job interview I had, I was shown their marketing strategy and material and asked what I thought - my reply was exactly as above, to cut a long story short it ended in fisticuffs and me being thrown out by security. Oh, and I didn't get the job. Pleased to see another worthwhile programme to watch. Now if only we could get it whereby we make bankers dance and then have to vote them off I might get the wife interested...
  2. I don't know about talking ourselves/myself into anything. I've just checked my Rightmove email - same price and search parameters for the last year, check every 24 hrs. Today I had 14 properties. 2 of those are land/building plots so in reality I have 12 1 of those is a retirement flat for over 55's only so that leaves me 11 Of the remainder 11 only 2 are not advertised as chain free. 9 out of 11 properties empty? BTL dream coming to an end...
  3. How does one start an online petition for HM Government? OK, I know it's a load of old ballcocks but it might be an interesting exercise to see how many people we can get to sign up for an audit, plus it would be great fodder to wake the sheeple up
  4. Agree wholeheartedly with this. Tesco no longer competitive on price and the quality of all their products across the board has deteriorated to the point that even the plebs who microwave everything they eat have noticed. Fruit and Veg from the local market - cheaper, lasts longer, less waste (seem to spend ages waiting for Tesco Fruit to ripen enough to eat, then find out I've missed the window and end up throwing it away) and infinitely better quality Meat - local butcher for all the above reasons. Plus a good friend of mine has worked all his life in the 'meat trade' - he won't touch supermarket meat at all, any of them, but despite plenty of beer and constant pestering won't divulge exactly why. The main problem now with Tesco is that in many areas they have destroyed the competition so they can dictate price and sell sh1t, consumers can go elsewhere of course but in my case that means a 15 minute drive to Waitrose (good food but pricey) or a 20 minute drive to Morrisons (good food, good price IMHO) Anyway - hypocrite that I am I'm off to Tesco for a few bits for my pack up this coming week... p.s - Now that I'm looking into Child Trust Funds I noticed Tesco now do these as well! Once they start doing funerals they'll have us from erection to resurrection...
  5. Go self employed or freelance and get paid in cash anyway...

  7. House Prices Poll Result. Massive 30% sentiment swing toward house prices dropping! There’s been a massive shift in what people think will happen to house prices over the next year, since since I ran this poll six months ago. Total Voters: 10,844 this time (9.811) Average Sentiment. House prices to drop 5.5% over the next year (drop of 0.6%). Voters predicting a rise: 17.5% of people predicted a rise (48%). Voters predicting a fall: 59% of people predicted a fall (30%). Does sentiment matter? Yes, when people think prices will drop they act differently, they’re far less willing to pay higher prices, and thus there’s the potential for a self-fulfilling prophecy. Fairly bearish news hitting a million inboxes today
  8. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-183...=2&tr_t=buy http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-183...=2&tr_t=buy Might not be hard evidence but this smacks to me of "bugger this, I'm not sinking anymore capital into this venture..." Given the work needed to finish off a good £50k overpriced anyway.
  9. How odd. Only last night I dreamt I was making love to the blond one out of Abba - shame it wasn't his beautiful wife Agnetha....
  10. Superb! This about sums it up for me. Now consider that 99% of the sh1te is imported from China and ends up merely as landfill (I'm still thinking of the piles and piles of "festive decorations" so beloved of chavs and those who've endured a taste and upbringing bypass) what energy costs are associated with it? I've long said to the wife (who nods and says yes dear) that there should be a tax on this sort of thing. Why does a little chinese man make a 'Santa stop here' sign that gets packaged and shipped halfway round the world and driven to a store so some witless moron can buy it for their brat when said moron (if he wasn't so witless) could get some cardboard/hardboard and MAKE the damn thing with their child (I think it's called parenting..) Anyway, I've gone O/T. I'm not really miserable, it's just that smiling makes my face ache...
  11. Downham Market here but used to be Norwich NR2 postcode Pro's - We STR'd and now have a nice 3 bed det house with garden for a lot less than we could buy for. Also our landlord is great - present for christmas, bottle of Champagne on our Wedding Anniversary etc. Commuting to London is a little over hr and a quarter, reliable service (far more so than when I used to commute from Norwich - I remember one day getting in at 3:30pm for my 10am meeting!) Con's - well Downham Mkt as an area is quite frankly sh1t. The town is nothing more than the usual - 6 EA's, about the same in charity shops and a few independent traders (local butcher is fantastic - well worth a visit, meat like it used to be...no added water just plenty of flavour). Tesco etc. for food Lack of anywhere decent to go for a pint or something to eat - the few good places are over priced IMHO simply because there is no competition, mind you, there is no competition because there is not sufficient demand...most seem happy with sh1t, but then that's Norfolk for you
  12. Thanks for posting this. I thought it was just me going loopy! My daily email update has recently been flooded with properties in Littleport which is just over 15 miles away - despite only setting a 10 mile limit. I think this is a relatively new phenomenon though (say last couple of months) and as i read it Rightmove and EA's are falling back on the time honoured desperate sales technique of throwing enough sh1t at something and hoping some of it sticks. Final note - I have discovered the one thing more frustrating than waiting for prices to fall, waiting for the wife to go into labour. 4 days overdue and counting...
  13. I so dearly wish FP hadn't used the phrase "4 to 6 years" - now getting such substantial ear bashing grief from the wife...love her to bits but she's not the patient type
  14. My two pennies... In rural West Norfolk my local garage is now 106.9 for diesel - don't know what Petrol is as the van doesn't run on that. Nearest supermarket for cheaper fuel is about 20 miles away. My work is a 70 mile round trip every day so too far to cycle, I can't use a moped because I'd never get all my tools to site and back. My big bug bear that really f***s me off everytime I go down to this nations great capital is that I see petrol stations next to an underground station, bus stop etc. selling fuel sometimes 10p per liter cheaper than I can buy it. Now I know the rules of supply and demand come into things somewhere along the line but it does occur to me that maybe a greener and fairer system would be for fuel to cost more if there is a viable alternative in terms of public transport? But then again...city dwellers countrywide would disagree...
  15. Have been meaning to post this for a while. William H Brown in Downham Market having a 'sale' too. not only that but they've had the board erecting guy go round and put little pink circles on all the For Sale Boards too. Now, if I remember rightly from my short time as an EA this costs the branch money - so it's not that they're desperate, they're just willing to invest in their sales right? And while I am on the subject - how much does it cost for this 'marketing expertise'? Anyone can run up some 'buy it now' fliers etc. but it's hardly the forefront of marketing is it?
  16. Now that looks like the sort of place you could kick the back door in, then paint it white on the way out...
  17. Wife and I have moved into a very nice house - paying £700pcm rent which is cheap (given the 3 beds, superb kitchen...and I do mean superb!...garage garden. lounge with wood burner, dining room and conservatory) point of it all is although we can afford to buy a place like this our rent is cheaper than the mortgage would be. So renting is "dead money" - well maybe...but £20K earning 6.75% plus £6K in 2 ISA'a plus 2k in premium bonds (I do like a gamble) plus 50K earning 5.5% (my worst decision) means it's not that dead. I overheard today "I can't afford to pay the mortgage this month, we've no food in the house..." - and then she got into an 03 reg car! Brother in law being made redundant - he's a financial advisor (actually he flogs mortgages) out of the team of 8, 3 are being made redundant) Sister in law now buying groceries on credit card as no money left from wages after mortgage EA's on the phone every day asking if I'm still looking for a property Price drops...oh my god...those price drops...same house, different agent, price about 20% lower, still not selling The biggest bull I know telling me last night that "property is a mugs game" The idiot on Jeremy Vine on friday - the BTL special who said "well I do think landlords are getting a raw deal..."
