Do the social workers looking after frightened and abused children, or infirm OAP's, work for free in your clown world? What does your new organisation look like? If it doesn't have defined benefit pensions (not final salary - very few current employees have those), will the pay increase considerably? As someone who's worked in both public and private, I can tell you private pays way more for some jobs.

Councils seem to be doing everything they can to bilk money out of residents. Probably due to the large budget cuts they've had over the years from the Tories. Did you write and ask if they had a justification for the massive increase?

Don't bet astounded by it, because it's largely nonsense. There are very hefty cutbacks in the pension if you retire that early. I'd wager you'd get less than 20% of your salary as a public sector pension at age 55. Of course, there may be a few exceptions, but they are very,, very few.

It is possible to be a nice decent human being and have money / assets, you know. I have decent assets and money, but I still rarely think about them. Like I said, I occasionally check my pension investments and slightly more frequently check my savings etc. But still not very frequently. I've always lived within my means and rarely think about that which makes up my net wealth. Life's too short to obsess about that.

I honestly don't even think about my net worth. My house is for living in, my car is for getting around. About the only figure I do check from time-to-time is the value of my pension investments. Most people I know are like this.
