  1. According to 'Ireland's Paper Of Record', the Eurocrats aren't entirely confident in Call Me Dave's ability to pull this off....... http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/europe-letter-contingency-plans-hatched-quietly-in-brussels-1.2695173
  2. Anyone know any popular Lithuanian Internet forums? Posting this there, along with a helpful link to the Shelter website might be entertaining.....
  3. Leave Tories to sign a letter calling on Cameron & Osborne to remain in office irrespective of the result...... According to Newsnight just now.
  4. The EU is a giant experiment in wealth redistribution, hence some countries being net contributors, and others being net receipients. This did work reasonably well up to & including EU15. While there was some movement of labour, there wasn't the levels of mass migration we see now. The accession of 7 EE countries in May'04 changed this entirely. This is where the experiment failed.
  5. Isn't this like eating our own sh1t and thinking we'll never starve as a result?
  6. Everyone's favourite former Greek Finance Minister has some interesting things to say about the internal dynamic within council of finance ministers. I'm surprised at his support of the Bremain position in light of his comments. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/eu-like-hotel-california-you-can-never-leave-yanis-varoufakis-1.2688702
  7. Rural Kent & Essex are firmly in the BrEzit camp, based on the conversations and observations I have had.
  8. V good piece from Liam Halligan http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/06/11/no-amount-of-eu-hysteria-can-bury-our-housing-crisis/
  9. The Asda Cheese & Onion sandwich has crept up from £1 to £1.20 in the last couple of days.....
  10. That's the entire 'Remain' proposition. You have a well defined option to stay in the EU, or a hazy leap into the unknown by voting for Exit. It's the same play used in the Scottish referendum. Those with a vi will always vote to protect their own interests. You can't make a reasoned empirical judgement when one of the options is an unknown!
  11. Time for a bit of Nordic Noir? http://www.irishtimes.com/business/economy/is-stockholm-s-house-party-over-1.2665702
  12. Carney reckons IRs will either go up, go down, or possibly remain the same. Somebody agreed to pay £800k pa, plus his living allowances for this kind of insight? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/05/24/interest-rates-could-go-up-or-down-after-brexit-vote-says-mark-c/
  13. Telegraph already running a piece.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/11/the-missing-million-are-we-undercounting-britains-immigrants/
  14. Such is the speed of the modern news cycle, a story leads in one paper, and the other papers effectively copy and paste the story. Lazy journalism as opposed to conspiracy I'm afraid....
  15. To be fair, there's such pressure around both salt & sugar levels, that sometimes the only way to hit the target is to reduce the portion sizes! At gate 2 of the development process, the retailer buyers decide the RSP (retail sales price). This is the single biggest determinant of how much goes into the pack. In the interest of full disclosure, I supplied the retailers with own brand foods for 6 years.
  16. As per title. Nothing new for HPC community, but nice to see in MSM. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/personal-banking/mortgages/first-time-buyers-rush-to-borrow-thousands---heres-how-it-could/
  17. Surprisingly reasonable article from the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/commercial/house-prices-fall-almost-everywhere-as-property-market-takes-on/
  18. Listened to this property programme on R5L 2 weeks ago. Absolute drivel, usual talking heads (John Charcol et al), soft questions and no challenge of assumptions. Won't listen again.....
  19. An interesting piece in today's Irish Times. It could also be relevant to all those on here that reckon they can easily relocate..... https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/generation-emigration/living-in-london-is-isolating-when-you-re-broke-1.2600441
  20. Finance Czar says 'stop buying BTLs and pour money into financial products like pensions'. Still it's nice to see the DT website lead with the words 'house price crash'. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/03/29/house-price-crash-could-leave-savers-without-cash-to-fund-retire/
  21. Apologies if already posted elsewhere. Bear food is an important part of any HPCer's 5 a day..... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/property/house-prices/12087971/UK-house-price-crash-looms-as-global-asset-prices-unravel.html
