The EU is a giant experiment in wealth redistribution, hence some countries being net contributors, and others being net receipients. This did work reasonably well up to & including EU15. While there was some movement of labour, there wasn't the levels of mass migration we see now. The accession of 7 EE countries in May'04 changed this entirely. This is where the experiment failed.

Everyone's favourite former Greek Finance Minister has some interesting things to say about the internal dynamic within council of finance ministers. I'm surprised at his support of the Bremain position in light of his comments. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/eu-like-hotel-california-you-can-never-leave-yanis-varoufakis-1.2688702

Gardian: Latest Poll Shows Eu Exit In Slight Lead
John The Pessimist replied to goldbug9999's topic in Politics
That's the entire 'Remain' proposition. You have a well defined option to stay in the EU, or a hazy leap into the unknown by voting for Exit. It's the same play used in the Scottish referendum. Those with a vi will always vote to protect their own interests. You can't make a reasoned empirical judgement when one of the options is an unknown! -

Carney reckons IRs will either go up, go down, or possibly remain the same. Somebody agreed to pay £800k pa, plus his living allowances for this kind of insight? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/05/24/interest-rates-could-go-up-or-down-after-brexit-vote-says-mark-c/ -

Independent: Housing Bubble Has Burst
John The Pessimist replied to skewiff's topic in House prices and the economy
Such is the speed of the modern news cycle, a story leads in one paper, and the other papers effectively copy and paste the story. Lazy journalism as opposed to conspiracy I'm afraid.... -
To be fair, there's such pressure around both salt & sugar levels, that sometimes the only way to hit the target is to reduce the portion sizes! At gate 2 of the development process, the retailer buyers decide the RSP (retail sales price). This is the single biggest determinant of how much goes into the pack. In the interest of full disclosure, I supplied the retailers with own brand foods for 6 years.
