ccc
So what are they likely to do now ? Showing stuff from 2007 - so the next series will be from 2008 ? I would give odds of about 10-1 against that. I will eat my hat if the next series DOES NOT come from the last couple of months in 2009 where there was some semblance of a property market - after 18 months of nothingness. It is quite nauseating. the stig
I like her. I like the fact that she's having trouble understanding why the Brits are obsessed with having an ensuite and a downstairs bog, when it means that the other rooms are tiny. £280k for a v small 3-bed is ludicrous. And it all looks sooooo CHEAP!!! The fittings are bargain basement!! Madness. Utter, utter madness. I've changed my mind about CH4 showing this stuff from two yrs ago. It's having a v positive effect on me. I'm sitting here shaking my head looking at houses abroad and laughing at the madness of the UK. I'll take mine and my wife's skills elsewhere thanks Gordon Brown. You'll be left with the benefit scroungers, the BTL brigade and your precious banking sector.
ccc
"Cheers to Matt's decisions" I guarantee Matt's decision makes him cry himself to sleep at night. If only he had just stuck to renting. He could have ******ed off abroad right now just cause he fancied it.
cybernoid
Single guy badgered into 174k purchase of a flat, top of the market. Kirsty even resorted to flirting with him to get him to spend. He must have a photo of her on his dartboard now.

the stig
I'm watching this on V+, so my comments are a bit late... Poor Matt. Both of those flats are dog ugly. Considering spending more than £50k on either is crazy. What a poor, poor, poor fellow. Genuinely pressured into a life of slavery. Krusty you're going to hell.
BrickandMortar
This evening's show - Autumn 2007 as well. Same as last week. Seems this series was filmed TWO YEARS AGO. Yet they have only just decided to show it now. Channel 4 is a disgrace when it comes to ramping. Beeny's show may as well have been titled 'Sponsored by Foxtons'. As for this one - even worse. Already tonight we have a 'perennial backpacker' wanting to get 'some roots down'. Phil's response ? 'About time too.' Then we have a couple, including a Yank, who are renting a house at present. When Phil walks in he explains this is 'their home - albeit a rental one.' Frowns all round. Next is the World's smallest terraced house. I am exaggerating there, but not by a lot. The cost of this shoebox in not so sunny sunningdale ? A cool £300k. Absolute insanity. It really is. When the yank is visibly shocked at how little you get for your money ? A sarcastic response that this is not America and you get half over here for the same price. They don't actually bother to offer any explanation as to why of course. Even though I do like a lot of British people - I am very gradually starting to really dislike this place. No positive change in the next 4-5 years and I may well ****** off somewhere else. Have you ever been to Sunningdale? The area is quite posh with many properties in the 1M+ bracket. I drive thru there a lot to work, common cars are bentleys, ferraris and rolls royce. Not a cheap area for house hunting.

Pre-boom it was probably 120k. Correct me if I am wrong - but I think Sunningdale was still the same, very nice area, pre-boom.................... Why anyone would aspire to live in such a place if it meant a lifetime of debt slavery is beyond me. Surely they'll be shunned by those Ferrari, Bentley, etc owning "locals" as the poor people who live in the small houses? Why not spend half that amount, live further away (oop north, i.e. above Luton) and actually have a ******ing LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

@contradevian
Fell asleep. Did the couple buy that poky town house with a red dining room? Can't believe that guy. With an American wife he's got the opportunity to live and work in the USA.

codeine
Are there any updates on what these people are doing now? i.e. have they done a runner to the USA, or are they trapped in their pokey flat having lost a fortune etc?
@contradevian
You mean this apartment right in the middle of Aspen Colorado is better value ? How very dare you !! Thats disgustingly poky and overpriced! Shame I could only live there six months of the year (or whatever the visa restrictions are). Conquistador
This short exchange spoke volumes. An outsider marvelling at the UK housing insanity, and the vacuous incomprehension of a cheerleader for the deluded. Quite poignant really. Disappointed American lass: "It's a tiny house, I just don't understand it. I guess I just don't understand this country." Swarmy Phil voiceover: "I can deal with them hating a kitchen, even having a problem with the whole house, but it's the first time anyone's rejected the whole country." Know what, Phil? There will be many, many more rejecting this country in the months to come.
deflation
Thats disgustingly poky and overpriced! Shame I could only live there six months of the year (or whatever the visa restrictions are). You can go to the USA on the non-visa waiver agreement, and receive a 90-day visa. This does NOT mean you can work there. I presume you can only get this 90-day visa once in a 12 month period. I've been several times but never been to the USA twice in the same year so not sure on that one. moonriver
And on tonight's episode Kirsty says one of tonights couples have been "pouring money down the drain", because they have been paying rent for a home to live in. So she is looking for a house for them to buy, and the date of the episode is Jan 2008. But I wonder if they did buy round that time, hasn't Kirsty helped them really "pour money down the drain" ? Especially if they had taken an "interest only" loan? This show is so against renting. Last week Phil told someone else they were wasting money by renting. Accidental STR
Not only did Kirsty come up with the "renting is pouring money down the drain" line but Phil repeaetd it later! As you say, January 2008 so the place they bought for £850,000 will have depreciated a fair bit by now. On the other hand, it seemed perfect for them and it looked like a long time home. The other couple were more cautious and ended up pulling out from buying a place they really liked solely due to the dropping market. Wonder what they're doing now?
