Guest sillybear2
What they don't realise is once the majority of the people either work for the public sector or in receipt of tax credits, there is no escape from the downward spiral of bankruptcy that socialism eventually leads to. Gone baby gone
Like China? Sounds interesting. How do you mean? I was thinking it will be more like Southern Italy / Sicily - the local clan member will operate a pyramid scheme, and everyone gets a visit once a year. Think feudal England and the Lord of the Manor. Protection, with menaces.

Gone baby gone
Sounds fun. Think I'll sign up for doing some menacing. You need weapons, some big nasty dogs and a few loyal - but criminally insane - underlings. I can supply a very good starter pack for 10 gold sovereigns (except the underlings, you get them from the job centre)
Guest KingCharles1st
It's no longer easy to understand one's personal feelings regarding "The Slimy One." Granted i used to despise the man, yet as I have said here often recently, he keeps making extremely accurate calls, and I totally agree with him regarding the bartering. The man has either had some sort of new brain operating system installed on the quiet, or there was something going on with his interaction with the old Conservative party that just put the man in the worst possible light and that became the accepted "take" on him. DoctorJ
I like Portillo a lot - he writes and talks well, but he is wrong about a lot too, including this. But he might be right

deflation
Haven't worked out if Victoria Derbyshire will be hotsing the phone in or Nicky Campbell (or both).I'll be at work so won't be able to listen in. Starting this week, 'Nick' and 'Shelagh' are on til 10am, every day. It's been the most pro-Lab media outlet for ages. I remember they used to have Charlie Whelan on the staff sitting around scoffing at anything Tory with Derbyshire and Warricker cheerleading. You don't remember the weekend shows then, as long ago as 2001/ 2002 that used to take the p**s out of all the Labour 'targets' and the target culture. Gone baby gone
Are you a member of the local Hunt? Well, there is a reason they live in those big old houses. Saving For a Space Ship
Portillo and barter ? reminds me of the Brasseye show 'Crime' episode with the prison slang. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qE5sxADDhew (3.53 mins in)
Guest eight
HPC favourite Micheal Portillo was on FiveLive this morning and predicted that we are going to go back to a barter economy. People who have skills that they can trade for other goods and services will do well. So you are sorted if you're into sewing, various types of handywork, plumbing etc... Is it going to get that bad? If you've seen Portillo on This Week, he's very bearish. I think he "gets it" like the best HPC'er. I can't put my finger on what it is; just something that you feel in yourself that you can then recognise in other people without anything being explicitly said. A bit like "gaydar" I suppose..... eight

Gone baby gone
If that happens, I think we should demand to be able to own guns. That's the problem, some people already have guns. Guest sillybear2
There will be new poor houses, people living in tents, basically the UK will resemble a very cold South American slum. Obviously the UK lacks land, building materials and excess labour... nothing happends without a bankers say so.
