  1. Debenhams website has been set up with a deactivated welcome page, a bit like flood control, it says "Sorry, but we are experiencing high volumes of online shoppers, would you like to re-enter the site? Click here" Cant be doing too bad, unless its a ploy to make you rush to buy things you don't need convinced that they will be gone soon. Town centres are probably empty this weekend because it is cold, I agree.
  2. Wow, i need never leave the house again. I can get all my social snooping in the comfort of my home
  3. Got something through the door myself, I think they will want to bump up the rent when they see we have decorated it in a more savoury fashion. Please somebody tell me that they cannot do that?!
  4. Looks like a reasonable offer to me! Why not suck it and see (as the expression goes).
  5. Yes, I am similar to you, scraping whatever I can, but as I live with boyf I think he gets fed up with my miserly way, so have to compromise. If I lived alone, I would probably not have tv on in background, one light on at a time and live on crumpets and tea., wearing two jumpers for warmth.
  6. Good point, after reading about the Brother printers that track small dots on every sheet of paper to the exact machine end printing time, I have developed an extra level of paranoia!
  7. Yes but too vague IMO. I wanted to know how fast people were saving, real sums. sometimes I think I could save more, stop smoking and only drink at weekend, but to what extent do you miser away? There has to be a life balance between saving for future and living a life.
  8. I see your point, I did this poll slightly tongue in cheek anyways, didn't expect much of a response.
  9. Like I said, Frozen Out, you can use it now, I couldn't care less. You just caught me on a one man war day thats all. Without a paddle, unfortunatley, I cannot edit it. Didn't think there was much point adding more really, I was getting finger fatigue after entering the details several times as it didn't seem to want to save the data for some reason.
  10. Does this work? Megaflop, he stole mine, along with another member on this site, who I had to persuade to change their avatar. I now no longer care, to be honest. Anyone can use it, I couldn't give a fig.
  11. Feel free to put exact figure, bank details as proof, as well as your mums maiden name, so we can look her up in the phone book and tell her she must be proud!
  12. I thought it was a good move Consa, give those buggers a taste of their own medicine, after all EAs lie like thier lives depend on it so what diference does it make? Ignore them
  13. Yes, you forgot the vocational qualifications, I did a HND because I knew what I wanted to do. I also did a CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) course which I have never used and never will! The HND courses could go on for another year if you wanted, which would convert them into a degree, most decide there is no point and just get out there to start earning, you don't get a better job so whats the point? I now work with an even mix of those who got into the job after doing higher education and those who did an apprentice. We are now all in the same boat, this goes to show that sometimes college days are nothing more than an opportunity to get wasted and sit around sniffing cow gum (for all those who went to art school!)
  14. Good job I wasn't there. After a couple of those expensive cocktails I would have strolled over, got her in one of those friendly headlocks, ruffling her hair with my knuckles and demanding to know where her hat was. Always a charmer and full of scintilating conversation with a few drinks down me.
  15. Why only in Leeds I don't know. Maybe they are keeping the ancient tradition of us Yorkshire folk being as tight as a knats @rse alive? Guide to recession living for students The mass populous will soon get the drift if it is filtering down to these levels! PS. Its not one of us lot, with a side line in EJourno is it?
  16. Ok, thanks for that, would you mind saying which currency you now hold? I suppose its a matter of which country you feel will fair best over the next few years but I am not researched in this area, does anyone know of any good articles on this? Thanks for your help.
  17. Does anyone on here think that holding euros will be a good idea? Or any other currency? Is this legal?
  18. Thats what I think will happen, what i was getting to. This would be bad news for Britain and the sh1t will really hit the fan. This is Stagflation. The last time this was around we had a house price crash did we.
  19. Tony stifles a laugh at his next revenge tactic on Gordon. Letting him have the keys to Number 10.
  20. Forgive my naïve take on this and correct me if I am wrong, but how could we deal with inflation if it is just happening in Britain? Wouldn't it have to be a global problem to set it as a new benchmark, otherwise we will lose out on business to the rest of the world and the original problem of = no jobs, no growth, bring us into a recession where the whole country has no money. Therefore if you have any cash at all you would be better off than everyone else, despite their assets??? Basically there would have to be global inflation in order for it to work in favour of those saddled with debt? I know that USA is trying to inflate their way out. Maybe the wheels are already in motion.
  21. Gordon knows the secrets out about the state of the country and Tony smells the sh1t in his pants...
  22. This was covered on the last edition of Newsnight (someones got to watch it). An architect was having his pop at the housing minister at the amount of vacant homes there are in Britain. He said that there are more than 100,000 homes like this in London alone. The govt are going to bring in a law which means they can enforce those who are sitting on empty stock to rent them out via the council as housing association if they have been vacant for more than 6 months. You can watch the programme here . Its about halfway through the programme, if you want to watch it. They did mention the problem in Liverpool, I got the impression that its a bigger problem there, than anywhere else, for demolishing properties and rebuilding at a lesser qulity. They pretty much covered what you are sying in this thread. Class line from Paxman at the end of the show.
  23. I want to give up work to look afte kids and I will look into that when the moment arrives, but once the kids have grown up, its good to have something else in your life or you become inert. Although in putting it like that, I pictures myself doing a 'hobby' job, rather than a 'procedure' dominant demanding job. Looks like we will need all the pennies we can get, at the rate this country is going, just to have what our parents took for granted. PS I don't mind being a rat, so long as I am a stress free rat, running in the opposite direction to everyone else!
  24. I have a feeling it has contributed slightly, in the case of FTBers who have entered the market. They will be thinking in the lines of 'well, since we both earn 25k each, we can still afford the shoe box for £100k.' Us girlies wanted a better job for a better life but its like our generation has become trapped by it. My peers are now looking at the girls who didn't pass thier GCSEs and became stay at home mums with a house now worth 200k as the sucessful ones rather than the girl who got a 1st degree and became top of her field.
