Hasn't it been discussed here how banks create money from nothing? i.e if some punter wants 100k mortgage then they just magic another 100k into existance. They then have the genius to charge interest on it, and as the capital gets repaid the money disappears again. Maybe I've got this totally wrong, but if not, why don't NR just pull some money out of a hat?

The irony here is that as the bloke who started the thread, it has diverged into something I actually know a lot about, namely television. As a broadcast editor at the Beeb, we still use CRT's when possible because of the image quality. We've tried countless LCD panels for working at high definition and they are all useless. They are great as computer monitors of course, but for real-life imagery a CRT cannot (yet) be beaten. Shame we can't get them anymore.
