  1. They do not seem to have realised that their fantastic 'Shelter guarantor' idea is a non starter because as soon as Shelter became guarantors, tenants would have no incentive to continue paying their rent (after all Shelter would just pick up the tab). Absolutely nuts...
  2. Of course if there really is no demand, that's another way of saying that the value is zero. That's some crash! ?
  3. This is what I find hilarious about Remainers. They simplu can't comprehend the complexity that people might actually change their minds as they get older and more experienced/wise in the ways of the world. As a young, fresh faced 21 year old, I loved the EU and the idea of a United States of Europe. Flag, anthem, everything... Fast forward to a wizened old 39 year old me and I can see that we get far less out of this lovely club than we put in. The sheer folly of moving the headquarters to Strasbourg once a month (just because) is just one example of how this organisation has become bloated and inefficient. We can still be proud, friendly European nation outside of the EU. A Canada plus style deal would even allow us to continue to enjoy free trade with the EU. This is what we should have gone for straight off the bat. It would all have been done and dusted months ago and any uncertainty would be a dim and distant memory. The Irish border problem? A difficult one to be sure, but we've already said (as far as I recall) that we will not be putting up any additional infrastructure. If the Republic are forced to do that, then they should go ahead if they must. We have had a common travel area with Ireland for years before the EU change along. We still do even now with the Isle of Man which never had been in the EU. The more this whole thing drags on, the more convinced I am that this issue is being hijacked as part of an orchestrated campaign to derail anything resembling a true Brexit by a Remainer PM. I'm now more convinced than ever that we should leave this corrupt institution as soon as possible. It may be painful in the short term but any pain will be worth it!
  4. I'm sorry, this Landlord Alliance thing just has to be a trolling of epic proportions. It's just too obvious! 10 out 10 to whoever has managed to pull it off! Getting £100-a-time pledges for little more than a dodgy Twitter feed (which is definitely doing more harm than good to the landlord cause) and a crap website. Impressive !
  5. Haha, I love the idea that more of the same is what we need to fix the housing crisis. 10 out of 10 for comedy ? Meanwhile, the next ramping up of S24 is on the way and the much-anticipated January 2019 tax bills are being readied! The more these guys ignore the elephant in the room, the worse they will fare and the harder any correction will be when it comes. We are already seeing the beginnings of a firesale...
  6. That Twitter account is an early Christmas present to any journalist who wants to do an Anti-BTL article. It sounds like an official organisation, if you overlook the spelling, punctuation and grammar. Selective quoting would not paint landlords in a good light!
  7. Interesting to see landlords whinging about letting agents hiking fees without any justification... Where were they when they were doing this to tenants? I don't normally indulge in Schadenfreude but I have to say I am absolutely loving the tenant fees ban! I'm not sure what I want to come out of this (landlords being fleeced, or letting agents going out of business); I just know it's going to be good! They are both getting their just desserts!
  8. Almost as terrifying as the idea of people with no knowledge or experience of their legal obligations being in charge of shelter for million of families. Unbelievable.
  9. Given that the supposed aim of HTB was to help people with deposits, it beggars belief that it was ever available to anyone *but* first time buyers! This should have a decent impact impact the price of newbuilds (how many true FTBs can afford anything close to new build prices?).
  10. No repealing of Section 24 though... another year closer to bankruptcy for many landlords!
  11. I agree. Let her carry out her threat. See how that is received by the general public. Will they blame: a) greedy landlords or b) the government I think I know which. It will be one of the quickest ways to bring in further controls on landlords. Let's start with an end to Section 21 'no fault' evictions as go from there.
  12. Haha they've pished away thousands on stamps, ink, billboard campaigns, ATTT etc. What's another hundred quid each? I guess it does make sense if you're heading for bankruptcy anyway. Might as well have anther throw of the dice... This guy's style will only harm public preception of landlords. It comes across as amateurish ranting. Some of the spelling grammar, for an official Twitter feed, is atrocious; I get that some people are not great at these things but surely if you wanted to be taken seriously, you'd get somebody else to do it for you... Some of the views expressed on the Twitter account are pretty questionable... Agent Sweeney doing great work. A proper loose cannon! ?
  13. They've been producing some brew material over on parasite118: https://www.property118.com/open-letter-landlords-shelter/#comments It has everything from criticism of Shelter, landlord infighting and yes, even a billboard campaign idea....
  14. Haha they have dropped any pretence that they are representing tenants... dissenters (tenants) just get called a troll and banned. Little more than that echo chamber that is parasite118 unfortunately. I still like to read the posts on ATTT and roll my eyes at the formulaic responses (rent increases, homelessness etc). The desperation reassures me that some of these guys are really feeling the pain and will be, like it or not, offloading their portfolios in the near future at firesale prices. Keep your powder dry ?
  15. Missed the link to this article on the Axe the Tenant Tax FB page...
  16. Even some posters on PT were warning of this being a possibility months ago I believe. 10 out of 10 to the government if they can pull this off. It takes all the skill of a true matador to accomplish that kind of thing! Victims of their own greed.
  17. Turns out that you can't just put the rents up after all: https://www.theguardian.com/money/2018/oct/16/taxes-buy-to-let-landlords-rents-generation-rent-buyers If only somebody had told them...
  18. If he paid enough. he'd be able to get as many plumbers etc as he wanted... I think he's trying to say in a roundabout way that his massive portfolio is no longer profitable... Looks like there will be some amazing bargains in Ashford soon; give it a few months for reality to sink in though Hope he's set money aside for the CGT... Poor Fatberg.
  19. I genuinely don't see why there would be no deal... As far as I know, the EU have array offered a Canada Plus style free trade deal, which is clearly preferential to no deal. Surely that becomes the default position rather than "no deal"...
  20. Hope he/she has factored in any CGT or she's going to get another shock soon...
  21. The firesale starts: https://www.propertytribes.com/tax-bill-in-january-t-127636858.html Oh dear.
  22. Please please please let it be the withdrawal of the reaining tax relief ? They're already talking about letter writing again over on parasite118...
