  1. ..i can only speak from personal experience but i bought a house in newcastle in 1986.. ..'86 = £30k ..'90 = £35k ..'92 = £32k ..more a fluctuation than a boom and bust.. and never entered negative equity...
  2. ..i'm not at all surprised that the attitude of 'they've never dropped, ever' persists... ..as has been mentioned countless times on here the 1980's great housing boom was predominantly a south east phenomenon and the subsequent crash and negative equity nightmare passed by pretty much un-noticed in various areas of the country... ..this time everyone has had a bite of the boom... ..and pretty soon no-one will be left in any doubt that house prices CAN fall...
  3. 10 months time.. Seller - i've reduced this thing four times why the f*ck isn't it selling... Buyer - that house i've got my eye on is plummeting i'll give it a while longer.. ..everyones a winner..
  4. ..what's the area gilf..?? ..and why is it set to explode..??
  5. ..was it filmed in Royston Vasey.. ..they were the double of tubbs & edward...
  6. ..pleased from a purely selfish POV.. ..i doubt i could ever be 'ecstatic' as i really believe we could be heading for a serious recession... and that's good for no-one..
  7. ..bang on CTT.. ..0.25 up in november as a warning not to overdo the xmas shopping... (which will be ignored..) ..followed up by a 0.25 in feb
  8. ..and right smack in the middle of 'hurricane alley'.. ..all the best to you dan but it might be a little premature to retire...
  9. ..some of us don't spend every waking moment here... ..so i must have missed it..
  10. ..chatting with a friend who is considering STR'ing (probably missed the boat now... but i didn't tell him..).. and he said the only thing holding him back is that he only has £65k equity and he thought it wouldn't be worth the hassle as he wouldn't make very much if the crash took years..!! ..i was wondering what do posters here think is the level of gains you'd have to make to make STR a worthwhile prospect..??
  11. ..house prices fell consistently between 1973 - 1978... ..maybe you meant 1970 was a good time to buy a house... (as long as you sold it in 73)... ...and anyway this can't be what happened in the 70's because.. it's different this time..
  12. ..i didn't expect the bbc to pit the massive wisdom of a local estate agent against the obviously under educated economists of the IMF... ..it's such a mismatch..
  13. ..question to estate agent... is the IMF right will house prices fall..?? estate agent.. no ...give me a f*cking break...
  14. ..i've seen SB in a bar in london and unfortunately the nuclear rockets are an optical illusion... ..they only look like 50 megatonners due to the incredibly small size of the rest of her... she's little more than a dwarf...
  15. ..hang on.. wasn't this the last quote from the IMF.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3661334.stm ..what are these guys on..?? ..at least they'll be able to say they called it right...
  16. ..Tesco aren't.. strictly speaking.. offering mortgages... ..they are selling them... but the mortgage comes from RBS...
  17. ..not really.. it doesn't surprise me at all ..employment opportunities are vastly superior in the south... ..i would give anything to move back to my native northumberland but a 50% pay cut just isn't acceptable... no matter how much i try to justify it..
  18. ..she always struck me as the complete opposite.. ..in fact the last programme of the last series she berated a couple who were str'ing for their stupidity... ..i remember her words... 'you should stay in the market... if the price rises you go with it... if the price falls you go with it... but at least you always go with it..' ..great advice sarah....
  19. ..a friend of mine has just struck a cracking deal with his landlord... ...the landlord has decided to sell the place but must be almost at breaking point on his costs as he has told my friend he can stay in the flat right up until exchange... (which seems to suggest any period of voids would be catastrophic for him..) ..my friend agreed although he complained it would a bit inconvienient what with viewings etc. and left his landlord in no doubt as to who was doing who the biggest favour. He then managed to negotiate a 25% discount on the rent... ..bearing in mind there are identical places in the street which remain unsold after 3 months+ he could have got himself a great saving...
