  1. Look at the drought years...... Could be offset by a fully functioning European grid.....at a transmission loss cost premium though. A more agile real time integrated grid is what's coming , that Dutch experiment is going to eventually go Eurowide, its the only way the politicians can justify the push and cost into renewables but particularly wind and get a working system at the end of it . Cheap powers unlikely to come back ( not even fracking), followed by cheap fresh water .
  2. Its not either or though is it ? Whatever Germany does , its certainly going to be less of a rushed bodge than what's coming here .
  3. The Dutch model is running on over 55% wind ,if theres no wind , even minimal base load is fossil derived , thus high price ,irrespective of time of day or minimal delivery or capacity. The capacity to produce is there. Just pay more for it. Be interesting to see how long it takes for this to reach here .....
  4. Just a high cost that's all..... @alexw ....And if its a blocking high .?......a week plus of very low wind condition's? Time of day is less relevant , its what producing the supply, the fossil/nuclear /renewables mix...that will control the cost in real time. You will still be able to run the whites ...but at a cost. If supply can't be made to match demand . then demand will,be forced to match supply. Another benefit of smartmetering is targeted power cuts. Rather than the whole net going down .....domestic consumers can be bricked out of the system, while keeping the police , medical and industrial going , and maybe if the shit is really going to hit the fan .... The military.
  5. Its not just the supply side that's going to see major changes in the future, its the demand. The renewable route and its weather related peaks and troughs that we have gone down is proving challenging to match to preferred domestic and industrial demand variance ,hence the push for smart metering and its ultimate goal. Demand is going to be manipulated to match the supply's ability to produce. Power will be variably costed in 5 min blocks depending on its generation souce ,fossil or renewables , with substantial near real time rapid differentials in the price. No more economy 7 its irrelevant. Major domestic appliances ( white goods and heating) will be linked to the Meter and have costing thresholds which will allow them to run , without major financial penalties. Homes will have massive thermal storage. Manual control via domestic consumers smart phones to their home will show real time home consumption with varying cost allowing immediate remote turn off if the wind drops. Your washing machine/dish washer will automatically only run when the wind blows. May go for days waiting , stacked up. We are all Pavlov's dogs now. Its all ready under trial in Holland.
  6. Germany's power fluctuations caused by wind generation is driving its more conventionally sourced neighbours mad , particularly with regard to surplus power dumping. But then demanding when the wind drops forcing a larger than needed rolling reserve which costs money for its neighbours to run . http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/52618 Lots of articles,on it ...one reasonable one above. Its getting to the, point where Germany's neighbours are putting in cut offs isolating Germany from the international grid . Hence Germany's accelerated push back into coal sourced generation .
  7. Me too.….plus lidl.. your in and out .....no multiple choice .no decisions less stress. I go out of my way not to shop at tescos , its my nearest store.( express) its a brazen margin uplift , just because its a "local" I actually feel resentment towards the company.
  8. its the 3 story ones 5 bed detached that get me ....just enough room to walk alongside , a garage you cant get a car in and a 2nd floor living room about the size of a 3 bed-roomed 70's houses one ....yours for £300k plus ...wood frame single skin , walk past the house and you can hear the owners morning dump and splash if your timings right ...... My biggest problem with modern housing is the lack of sound proofing , not the size . Approx 695 going up not far from me .... first 95 start early next year
  9. Mayber data from the co-op has been included.......a run in slo mo
  10. It needs an ornamental fountain for that final touch ...... I can't wait for the developers next foray into the field to the north east...... The land looks a bit raised , maybe dig it into a cutting .
  11. And under everyone's noses the Chinese are stripping central Africa bare of raw materials . And are now making economic inroads into central america .
  12. Earthquakes and heavy bits falling on top of your head may also have something to do with it .?
  13. You may be in for a fracking surprise in the near future..
  14. Opp ....sorry typo , its west of Cardiff Dropped now to 86 with around 20 of those now STC , and quite a few completions from the look of it , the bottom end on the asking prices up somewhere around 10 to 15%
  15. Maybe they lived through the Wilson /Callaghan years ...........you think...?
  16. Cavity bead insulation really does work ..... In WaLes you can get it done for "free" , ....although slapped on in taxes I suppose. My annual council tax bill is 3 times my yearly combined energy cost I had a free check last week , where a camera is run into the cavity to check for suitability It turned out that mine had already been done , you had to look hard to see where the drill holes were , its was a pretty good colour match. Surprisingly ( to me)external insulation (some sort of skimmed polystyrene block) was being offered on the older houses and then rendered , not a route I would want to go down due to ease of damage. You don't really realise the value of a garden until you try to live without one , Even if its only small , did it for 4 years in a flat in London , a mistake , thought it was a good idea at first ( zero maintenance) but its not worth it in the end .Sitting on the decking with the sun going down ,cold beer in hand and a steak on the barbie has to be one of life's little pleasures .
  17. Not forgetting that the clean up costs for decommissioning for nuclear have not been factored in . Sellafield has already hit £67billion alone with no indication on its upper limit or completion . The magnox farce is currently expected to hit £73 bn but there are delays and a debate over whether its going to take 100 years or 25 Magnox reactors could see closure deferred to help bridge funding gap http://gu.com/p/2hkyp The long term geological depository site still has not yet been chosen ...est £75 bn and counting , all these are costs and also massive consumers of energy . One of the cheapest electricity production plants in Europe ..La Rance tidal barrage , built 50 years ago , repayed its construction costs decades ago , now producing at €0.018 per kwh. Just name 1 nuclear reactor that's recouped its cost by production during its life cycle.? Ever ...anywhere ?
  18. You have to admire the amount of effort gone into his lifestyle to get his nose to match the same shade ...... even the lizards would have to be impressed
  19. Government gets a percentage in tax on every quid spent on consumption. Its not in their best interest.
  20. Almost halved in price since first going on the market...! Really want out...
  21. Service costs only go one way with managing companies , and if there are a few BTL's in the mix forget about getting a consensus in residents meetings as they don't then turn up.
  22. Imputed.....rental..... Owner occupier imputed rental income tax ......wtf http://stuartbuck.blogspot.co.uk/2005/02/imputed-rental-income.html I'm listening to dark side of the moon at the mo..... Coincidence.... But so apt
