Gman Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I have around 1K in silver, it is going nowhere. VAT on the purchase has made it a 100year bet. It is tied to the industrial performance and will only get worse. Stay away, buy Gold. Quote

Got tonnes of the yellow stuff though, which is flying now. Just like I said it would all you nay-sayers! I still think silver is a reasonable bet in the medium term though. When gold really starts to fly to the moon (and it will) silver should gear up in it's wake and make for decent returns with any luck. Still it's a relatively small punt for me, that will hopefully give a nice little bonus return on top of the forthcoming gold profits when sterling, euro, dollar all collapse, hehehe!!! Quote

I think silver will rise more than gold because: - more of the worlds population can afford silver - there is a lot more of it so potentially more difficult for central banks to manipulate directly (although I understand interventions in gold market also affect silver) Quote

Unless Gold gets totally monetized silver is going to blow it to bits in % terms...like it usually does! Edit : Even if it does silver will still do very well... Edited May 3, 2010 by spp Quote

Gman Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 If I bought a 1kg silver coin (aussie koala) I would pay £567. If I were to sell it I would recieve £432. VAT makes it a BAD bet and a 100 yr investment. Quote

Guest absolutezero Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I would imagine that the VAT issue makes buying silver via Goldmoney much more attractive. Does that get you physical possession? If not I'd personally not touch it with a bargepole. Quote
'Bart' Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Does that get you physical possession? Nope. I could be wrong but from reading the Goldmoney site, you don't suffer the huge disparity between the silver spot rate and the price you get from a dealer, as mentioned in post #13, when selling your Goldmoney silver. "All metal sales are based on the current spot rate. There are no commissions or other fees when you sell your metal back to GoldMoney." It *seems* as if you get the current spot rate when you sell. Anyone able to confirm this? Quote

Gold up to day silver dropped 1.3% intra day volatility is meaningless - you have to ask yourself which way the GSR is going to go from here now let me see, what did silver do when gold peaked, ah yes that's right it outperformed gold silver makes its move at the later stages of the pm bull market, this time will not be any different if we get a repeat of 2008 again, i will load up again like last time Edited June 1, 2010 by p.p. P.P. Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Apart from the VAT issue, have you any idea of the logistics involved in taking physical possession of a decent amount of silver? What would you define as a decent amount of silver? Quote
200p Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Chinese £200 per month wage (some £50-£100) UK let's say £1000 per month. Go away and think about it...... I can't spoon feed you all. Silver as money - make use of your purchasing power while you can. Quote
urban_hymn Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Silver as money - make use of your purchasing power while you can. +1 So many posters obsess about the daily insignificant moves. I love silver. Got mine when it was £250/kilo on ebay. What's it now? No need to trade - it's a bull market - just hang on! Silver goes for the same price on ebay whether VAT is being charged or not - one advantage! Quote
ThePiltdownMan Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 For every ounce of gold produced there's 8 ounces of silver produced, yet gold is 70 times more expensive. Does that seem right to you? Quote
