Going back to the subject of misogyny etc The other day I saw the intro to Saturday Night Fever with the young Travolta strutting his stuff in Brooklyn or wherever. FFS he'd be arrested for that behaviour nowadays, and I'd support it. 3min 28 secs in. Extremely intimidating, scary. Would that count as an assault? Harassment?

Why so many men in the US have stopped working
Si1 replied to shlomo's topic in House prices and the economy
"The Game" consists of being mediocre at everything. Being a willing mediocre wage and debt slave in a mediocre new build house with two mediocre rather expensive cars on finance, and p1ss poor investment choices paying ludicrous sums of carry forward commission to a mediocre financial advisor. Good doggie. -

I think I agree generally to some degree. People forced off the treadmill by recession and pandemic also realise that you can live quite well on very little if you forgo status symbols. I'm pretty sure that's why a lot drop out of the full time aspirational workforce. I don't think it's damage per se from the individual's POV but the owners of capital might see it as damage to their asset returns. -
Creepiness is quite interpretable. Asking someone out is not illegal and yet some women define that as creepy. Hitting on someone for sex is also not illegal but again interpreted as creepy, although it's pretty brass necked. Even a husband angling for an ahem romantic time with wifey is sometimes termed creepy. The only genuinely creepy thing about any of those things is not taking no for an answer. There was a case in the news maybe 5 years ago about a man who divorced his wife because she refused a physical relationship with him. It was granted and in my view reasonable, as sex is a legitimate part of marriage. Some women's rights groups were up in arms over it, I didn't get it .

It's v unreliable these days, although there's a comprehensive network. We have high hopes of the new proposed west Yorkshire tram network and also NPR improving this on all counts -
Is the UK relying too much on interest rate cuts to drive growth?
Si1 replied to cdd's topic in House prices and the economy
Absolutely. A fundamental intellectual error that the Bank of England have made I believe has been a general ignorance of the risks of too- low interest rates. misallocation of capital as a result they have not taken into account the fact that this itself distorts growth negatively
