Bloo Loo
Benefits - they go up in a recession. They went up in the boom, so they'll really really go up now.IF the growth and unemployment numbers are wrong, if they are too bullish, and they forecast this to be milder than 1991, then the deficit will be staggering beyond all belief in a couple of years. dont worry, there are 600,000 jobs being advertised. Ok they are not where people are, nor are they paid well, but they are there. Darling says so.

Chuffy Chuffnell
Finally - someone in the media has realised!! http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle5225167.ece The reduction in VAT could well fuel deflation.
leftiebeard
What a joke of a government; we are well are truly shafted. Debt upon debt, over inflated expectation of recovery over inflated expectation of recovery etc. This is a series of pathetic bribes which I am convinced that all folk, bar Polly Toynbee and fellow members of the ignorant liberal Guardianista mafia will see the folly of. How the hell can AD hold the future taxpayer to such despicable ransom?

Chrysalis
yeah scrapping vat on fuel/gas would have been far more of a stimulas and helpful to struggling people this vat thing seems to be a stealth way of boosting profits for retailers to try and hide a recession.
