It has just occured to me that I haven't seen a Big Issue seller for months (south Wiltshire). They always had a pitch outside both my nearest branches of Waitrose and also latterly Lidl. Haven't seen them for months - have the supermarkets told them to get off their land now? Or is it just pointless trying to sell when the spare cash after the weekly shop just isn't there any more?

We used to live in Colchester, and it was well known that it was the Big Issue sellers that were the drug dealers - easy interaction with those that wanted to buy, they just either dealt direct (shockingly openly in fact), or slipped a little extra something into the copy of the Big Issue that they sold to them.

Far fewer in London than there used to be. Also a lot fewer beggars. Suppose we'll be seeing that lot back again in the coming recession though.
