PropertyGuru
Quite. The issue of IRs is debated and VOTED ON at the monthly meeting. How would they pre-determine it? At another meeting? What would be the reason for that? In the same way that company accounts are formally presented at a certain point in time, even though they have been in preparation for some months, the MPC decision meeting is a formal 'here's the thing' event. The meeting itself is just an opportunity to watch porno and drink free tea. They make their minds up during the month and agree it beforehand so the minutes can be written up. Unless you think the minutes actually are taken at the meeting, instead of being a standard piece of Whitehall 'fiction'. Which would be a 'first'. Oh, hang on, you are absolutely right. The members go into the meeting having had NO contact with each other since the last meeting, and with NO idea as to how they will actually vote. And they make their minds up after a lively intellectual debate. Yeah, right. The meeting, is, of course, presided over by Santa and the Tooth Fairy. the end is a bit nigher
my father used to tell me about his negotiations with the unions - they would get on the train to London at opposite ends, wait for it to set off and then meet up to agree a mutually beneficial outcome - they would then get off the train and make their own way to the venue, before being seen to thrash out the pre-agreed outcome i suspect the mpc is much he same - i would be surprised if there was no communication between meeings and each member (certainly merv) didnt have a fair idea of each other member's views - that deosnt mean the outcome is pre-agreed, just that it's unlikely to be clear-cut

I thought this idea had been ridiculed enough already, with the pre-pre-meeting conspiracy joke above! Do they agree a mock vote result then? my father used to tell me about his negotiations with the unions - they would get on the train to London at opposite ends, wait for it to set off and then meet up to agree a mutually beneficial outcome - they would then get off the train and make their own way to the venue, before being seen to thrash out the pre-agreed outcome i suspect the mpc is much he same - i would be surprised if there was no communication between meeings and each member (certainly merv) didnt have a fair idea of each other member's views - that deosnt mean the outcome is pre-agreed, just that it's unlikely to be clear-cut Maybe there is conversation between meetings, but what on earth is so unbelievable about them having a meeting to debate it in full once a month, and to then have a vote AT THE MEETING? It's the same with all this conspiracy crap about GB instructing them. What happened in August 2006 then, or at all the meetings when IRs increased from 3.5 to 4.75%? Was GB off sick? Dont the previous minutes/voting/quarterley data themselves principally set the overriding tone. Unless there's some momentus happening. Such as there hasn't been recently.

I sold a lot of £s for euros the day before the MPC decision, reasoning that the market was pricing in the possibility of a rise, which I thought was pretty unlikely, despite PG's birdy. Turned out to be a bit of a dicky bird!

Perhaps you should go and read the post I started the thread with. I didn't predict anything. And the apology was a 'ridiculous' tongue in cheek response to the tongue in cheek replies from people who understood the whole point (which you obviously don't). BTW, why do you end your lame posts with 'JY'? Have you forgotten who you are between starting the post and pressing the button? Or do you just feel you are so important that you need to have your name twice on every post? Have a nice day now. P.G. You see - you can't have it both ways. It's not that the information was wrong, it is that your judgement is so suspect. Can anyone place any credibility in anything you post? I stick to my first impressions of your FOAF (and by extension you) - a self-aggrandising grunt with a bit of canteen gossip. JY
