teddyboy
Rental Yields are that LOW that the Landlord didnt even notice she never paid the rent for 3 years TB
Katherine
The second one who was found dead was in fact being visited over rent arrears. Why no one chased it up sooner.....and I couldn't believe the telly was still on after THREE years........ Rather gave me the creeps the mention of the "body being surrounded by unopened Xmas presents..."
SarahBell
Didn't this happen a lot during Mrs T's time?
gasket37
Didn't this happen a lot during Mrs T's time? what a bizarre statement - pardon me if i have misinterpreted you but are you really blaming thatcher for the number of people who died alone during her reign? erm, probably no more or no less than at any other time, really but i could be wrong
The Masked Tulip
That is absolutely tragic. It is terrible to think that she had no one in the World who cared enough about her to even realise she was 'missing'. May God have mercy on her Soul. Liskeard’s deputy mayor Chris Ferguson said: “It’s a very sad fact of life how many people are isolated in today’s society. This woman appears to have had not many friends or any family to miss her. Very true.
Katherine
She did have family - they attended her inquest Quote from one of the papers:- Her brother and sisters attended the inquest this week, which recorded an open verdict, and they said she had been placed in a women's refuge because she was a victim of domestic violence. It is thought she moved from there to the flat, at which stage her family lost touch. laurejon
Typical of a Labour Government to have an unwanted population left to die on their own in a squalid flat. Tony Blair and the Labour Movement should be ashamed of themselves. Thank God that the Conservatives will win the next election and wipe that grinning champagne socialist smile off the entire cabinets face. If we could return to the policies of Thatcherism then maybe we could see the UK once again being taken off the sick man of Europe list. padders
My father had a situation like this with a tenant, found dead after a couple of months from neighbours complaing about the smell. When rent is paid by direct debit there is no reason for the landlord to ever know. Pretty horrible as he had to go round to the place and box up all her things - which then had to be thrown away because there was no one to claim them. Very sad. If we could return to the policies of Thatcherism then maybe we could see the UK once again being taken off the sick man of Europe list. How on earth is this any government's fault. People die. Lots of people die at home. Some people have no friends or family. What do you want, some government agency to go round and check people have friends or something? Edit: Crap, didn't realise it was you and your rather odd sarcasm. Edited April 17, 2006 by padders
laurejon
The divide and rule policies of the Labour Governments have caused a breakdown in society. We no longer have community, there was a day when people would check on their elderly neighbours, nowadays the elderly each night bolt the doors up and hide as they are petrified that if someone did attempt a breakin they would not get any assistance from police or otherwise. Labour have sold their ideal by using the words, "The fear of crime" as if anyone who questions whey the police are ineffective are just thinking it. In reality we all know, there are no police on the streets, and most stations are not manned at nighttime. Old Coppers dismay at this, new ones are very happy as its an end to boring night shifts and pub brawls. So it really is a byproduct of a labour government.
