Cosmic Apple
If you're too embarrassed to ask for it (Not that I think you should have to) then you probably shouldn't be looking. Quite. I don't see whats to be red faced about? We really need to get a grip and be more open about this stuff in Britain.
Frank Hovis
If you're too embarrassed to ask for it (Not that I think you should have to) then you probably shouldn't be looking. I think, being a girl Sarah , you're missing that a large part of the appeal was always the illicit nature of pron; that it was naughty. Mags hidden behind cupboards and all that. If there were big pron posters all over the walls at school (NB - I am not suggesting it!) and we were all issued with standard pron text books and had to take weekly tests in "what was happening on page 23" then the demand for it would collapse. Alan Coren did a short story called soemthing like Sex Education on a similar theme; a boy was caned because he was caught reading a geography textbook in the toilets. So it would actually have the greatest appeal for the person who was most embarrassed to ask for it. The bloke who's quite happy to pick up the phone and say without shame, "Yes, please turn it on, I'm missing my mass ladyboy orgies" probably isn't getting much out of them. Bloo Loo
trouble is, its not just porn sites...it will be "hate" sites too. and during a recent fault with my router, a couple of political sites I visit were blocked until I "fixed" the router again with a hard reset. BT claimed it was just a fault, but it was odd the filter just appeared one day...almost like it was uploaded by the ISP. Hate sites seems to mean having a channel that disagrees with mainstream opinions on religion these days.
StainlessSteelCat
First they blocked the copyright infringing sites and I did not speak out because I was not a pirate. Then they blocked the pron sites and I did not speak out because I was not a perv. Then they shut down anti-Government sites and I did not speak out because I was not an anarchist. Then they only allowed corporate sponsored soma and there was no one left awake to complain.

Then they only allowed corporate sponsored soma and there was no one left awake to complain. My reponse to that, and I have had it quoted at me before, is usually "go forth and multiply" but I can see the internet getting steadily more and more sanitised and corporate until it has no more appeal for me than watching television; teh future interent may have all the soul-emptying bilge of Yahoo's homepage. So I totally agree. It's also IMO a bit like my attitude to the drugs trade. If you continually legislate against various internet contents that are currently on the open web and therefore open to a bit of moderation and regulation, then they go onto the dark web and the criminal networks and you expose a large number of perfectly reasonable people to some very shady characters and extreme content just because they want to, say, buy some cannabis. libspero
The thing I don't understand is who pushes for this type of legislation? Surely the Victorians died off years ago, are there a few dinosaurs left in the lawmaking process? How did we end up in a society where thing like homosexuality and transexuality have been completely accepted, yet people having sex on video is still taboo and shamefull with the need for censorship? Feminazis? "Porn is a man thing used by men to objectify women. Won't somebody thing of the children?!" Nevermind I've had a few girlfriends get off watching porn (some open about it others daft enough to leave their browsers open on it ).

SarahBell
Why not? Having the option to block at the ISP level is fine, having it turned on by default most definitely is not. You should not have to scurry off and ask permission to do something perfectly legal. I agree with you. Having it blocked by default is wrong. Exactly! Both Frank and I do not wish the Internet to turn into paid TV.
