A woman has received £25,000 in compensation in the first award of damages for a civil case involving sexting.

The woman was encouraged as a 16-year-old schoolgirl to send naked photographs of herself to a teacher at the New School, a private school near Sevenoaks in Kent.

We are doomed as a society.
At 16 you should be responsible for your own actions.

Saw this earlier. The 'Victim' said she hoped this would stop people taking advantage of people in future and 'abusing' them.

An old sleazy letch taking advantage of a young impressionable girl ? Most probably - but even then I would keep an open mind to how this all came about.

Someone being 'abused' ? Complete nonsense. He asked her to send pictures - and she did.

If thats 'abuse' then yes I agree - this country is ******ed.

Between irrational feminism, and downright batshit insane Islam, we are indeed.

Does make an interesting case though.

She took the photos. He had possession of them. If girl loses a memory card, I find it and open it to try and surmise who it belongs to, and it has graphic images, am I guilty of voyeurism or something. On the judges logic she could feel dirty and violated I had seen her naked body...that seems to be the crux of his reasoning. She says she 'feels' abused, so therefore must be abused.

Bonkers as it stands, I would hope this is purely restricted to under 18s.

It sounds like the UK population is being infantilised and the age of consent (16) and majority (18) should be increased from 16/18 to say 21, 25, 30 or something (35 to be on the safe side?). Maybe there should be a law on age disparity as well then it's nice and neat and clear.

New guidance for psychologists will acknowledge that adolescence now effectively runs up until the age of 25 for the purposes of treating young people. So is this the new cut-off point for adulthood?

"The idea that suddenly at 18 you're an adult just doesn't quite ring true," says child psychologist Laverne Antrobus, who works at London's Tavistock Clinic.

Apparently she's about 49 with three children so she's well above the current age of consent and majority.

Straight to jail for Mr Pin, do not pass go.

Ut used to be OK for 16 year old girls to get their tits out for national newspapers. Now you have to be 18.

I never understood the age of consent in this country. I mean you could legally participate in an orgy at 16 but if you take a picture of yourself naked and send it to someone you are distributing Child Porn? Come on, WTF?

I think because teachers (as well as doctors, and other professions) have a duty of care and "should know better". The main issue I think is that it was a teacher and pupil from the same school. The power balance is unequal despite both being "adults" (both might need to do a bit of growing up though). Are teachers regulated by a body with a code of conduct?

Pressumably all teachers go on annual child protection and vulnerable adults courses each year?

If a 16 old girl was going out with a 40 year old teacher from another school, then that might be OK. But don't quote me.
