What amazes me when there is mass youth unemployment as well as a general increase in unemployment in general this goverment are increasing the retirement age?

Couldn't agree more. By 60/65 you should be sorted. It is vanity, not greed or need that keeps these people in work. Stsand aside I say.

Voting restricted to people who have a vested interest in maintaining a viable nation: as most Western nations used to with literacy tests, property requirements, etc. People who have something to lose generally won't vote to give it to the government, whereas people with nothing will queue up to vote to steal whatever their neighbours have.

I wouldn't make that kind of prediction, but I'm sure it will be more entertaining.

It's worth noting, of course, that 'bread and circuses' were one of the main reasons for the collapse of the Roman Empire, as more and more money was stolen from the productive members of society to pay the worthless to sit at home and breed an ever-growing population of useless welfarites until the productive finally realised they'd be better off letting the barbarians loot Rome than continue slaving away to sustain it. Rome may have survived that for a couple of centuries, I can't see the modern socialist nations doing the same.

Except the chattering property owning classes are what have just destroyed the uk economy for the next couple of decades. Those with little/nothing did not benefit from the crack up boom and did not cause it. Indeed it destroyed their jobs which were outsourced to india and china or replaced with cheap foreign labour.

Welfarites?? please explain how welfarites just destroyed the uk economy rather than the global champagne corporatists, and the "my house is my pension" middle classes.

Next stupid idea please.....

This works better for an economy running current account deficits than it does for a current account surplus country.

I do think the beuracracy involved in this would be complex, which means that likely there would be loopholes to be exploited and lobbied.

Is it preferable to a simple forex tax?

Apologies: just back from pub

Sorry Scepticus, I'm not an economist, I don't understand this objection

I told you where I thought a Forex tax would go. People smuggling £50 notes wrapped in toilet rolls, every 'little person' trying to sneak their money out.

You think the bureaucy would be complex, look at current tax rules. I'm waiting to visit my accountant in a mental institution.

As they say in Italy (okay Naples); probably the most bureaucratic country in western europe. 'First comes the law, and then the loophole'. - So with that mentality we should never legislate

I really don't think the problem is people moving money around, I think that is healthy, it's jobs going to semi-slave economies, that is bad, it only makes a few people richer, and everyone else gets poorer

And I don't think moving money about is the problem - it's losing jobs to slave economies that's the problems. It drags non-slave economies down, not slave economies up.

And that's without bringing Injin's 'overhead' of coercion into the fray

Sadly between advancing automation, offshoring manufacturing, offshoring services, importing million of foreign workers.. there are very few jobs available for the younger generation. And each year there will be fewer and fewer jobs available unless there is a shift in policies.

The older generations have wrecked the economy and then are trying to blame the young for being lazy or not creative enough.

No, the central bank and central planners have destroyed the UK economy, and the 'chattering classes' are mostly otherwise unemployable Guardianista products of Britain's bloated welfare state. In a free nation they'd be lucky to be flipping burgers, let alone houses.

Those with little/nothing did not benefit from the crack up boom and did not cause it.

Those with little/nothing have been voting Labour for years, and now have to live with the consequences: a bloated socialist state which doesn't give a flying ****** about them.

Where did I say they did? This current crisis is nothing compared to what will happen once the productive people decide they can't be assed to get out of bed to pay ever-increasing taxes to fund the welfarites and their Guardianista hangers-on: a welfare state can only continue until the money runs out, and Britain is not far from that point today.

The money will run out due to paying for the mistakes of the Capitilist Banks. Why will you not accept that Capitilism has messed up , you can moan all you like about Guardianista hangers on and the welfare state , but no one can deny that the mess we are in was caused by Capitilism running riot , taking ever bigger risks , to fund it's ever increasing short term greed ,that bought the world econemy to its knees .

It was banks that were run for profit and profit only that messed up and you try and blame central banks , calling them socilist ,who had to come to the rescue at tax payers expense .

Please explain such a sweeping statement.

INCOMPETANT, and isolated (from the electorate) politicians, and crooked banksters have surely been the authors of this huge fraud.

Age is not the problem, most of us (of all ages) have simply worked and paid our taxes (and pensions, but been robbed of them).

I understand that the 'grey tops' have less years to help clear our huge debt than the younger generation, but hopefully the younger generation will enjoy better times in the future, the oldies will only see hardships now, to there graves.

Bloody amateur, idealist, career politicians, have ruined this country, but they will still claim that black is actually white!! liars all.

It started in the US, BS, how can this be disputed and proved to be false, and easily presented to the steeple.

Sorry don't agree it is the older generation who have wrecked the economy, there are a lot of factors which have got us into this mess and one reason is the we want now youger generation who borrow far to much, which they cannot afford to pay back.

Remember this the older generation are also being hammered as well, the fact that the older end are now are being told they will have to work longer when there is so much unemployment is beyond belief.
