IP Newcomer
What it is Wikis are easily editable web pages, the most well known collection of which is http://en.wikipedia.org/ What HPC would do HPC would host its own wiki and offer links to the wiki in various parts of its site How it could be used - FAQs on discussion boards - Help sheets - Collabarative press releases ---------
selkirk
An excellent idea. Wikipedia is a fantastic site.

King of the castle
Any volunteers? Haven't you guys worked out yet that you conclusively can't move markets by spamming the internet? IP Newcomer
Any volunteers? I would offer to moderate, but I'd need help. Anyway, it would need to be hosted somewhere, preferably hpc. For wiki farms, see here: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiFarms and on starting wikis: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wiki_Science:...to_start_a_Wiki Edited November 18, 2005 by IP Newcomer
IP Newcomer
Although I think that this should be hosted on HPC, I've made a remotely hosted start.

RichM
I'd be happy to help with editing (for spelling, grammar, content, readability etc etc), but know nothing about running websites. As you might recall, I do know a bit of BASIC, if that's helpful.
since the beginning
Good idea in principle but can you imagine.... Bear logs in and writes all his stuff about a HPC. Bull logs in disagrees and deletes all the stuff and writes about house prices never falling. Wiki's are generally better when it is stated facts rather than opinion. IP Newcomer
How do we help? Add content. For some guidelines see: http://www.oddmuse.org/cgi-bin/oddmuse/Tex...matting%20Rules ... or just click on "Edit this page" on any of the pages and see how various formatting, etc, has been done. For example this is the start of "How To Sell My House": http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/HousePriceCrash/Sell and this is the edit page: http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/HousePric...on=edit;id=Sell If you want to add a new page simply replace the page at the end (in the example above it would be "Sell") with any text you like and when the blank page appears click "Edit this page". Hopefully it will be hosted on HPC soon enough. I'd be happy to help with editing (for spelling, grammar, content, readability etc etc), but know nothing about running websites. It's designed to be very simple to edit. I'll probably need a little help when more people have turned on to this. As you might recall, I do know a bit of BASIC, if that's helpful. Commodore, Sinclair or BBC basic?
Jayne The Payne
As I discovered only a little while ago, there is already a wiki on the housing bubble - see past thread: http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/ind...ndpost&p=181090
IP Newcomer
As I discovered only a little while ago, there is already a wiki on the housing bubble - see past thread: http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/ind...ndpost&p=181090 True enough, but that's a Wikipedia entry - not a freestanding wiki. The wikipedia entry has to follow Wikipedia rules on having a neutral point of view, so it would not be a good base for writing "rebuttal" press releases or warning leaflets. spline
Rather than grabbing the first editable web/blog programme that comes to mind and bashing in content, we should give a bit more thought to the choice of Wiki platform, for example, the Oddmuse system above calls itself a wiki but (as far as I can see ) doesn’t provide much support for structuring and organising the information or even making it easy to find once it's there. A more natural choice would be something like these: MediaWiki (Open source, used for wikipedia, PHP+SQL) http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki Twiki (Open Source, Perl CGI) http://twiki.org Edited November 19, 2005 by spline

BoredTrainBuilder
I do think this is worthwhile and provided what we are moving towards is a rebuttal process rather than a quixotic 'campaign' then if I can help I'd be glad to.

That's excellent. You can start immediately, indeed anyone can. That's cool, when I've got a moment I'll give it a go. wikipedia.com is extremely impressive indeed, in a few years it will be the only definitive source of information. Scary in a way. Bubble Pricker
We need something more professional looking, but I very much like the idea. eed to settle on a plaatform, integrate it into and host on HPC, then get going. Time for a beer with webmaster to hammer out a plan.
