How do we help?

Add content. For some guidelines see:

http://www.oddmuse.org/cgi-bin/oddmuse/Tex...matting%20Rules

... or just click on "Edit this page" on any of the pages and see how various formatting, etc, has been done.

For example this is the start of "How To Sell My House":

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/HousePriceCrash/Sell

and this is the edit page:

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/HousePric...on=edit;id=Sell

If you want to add a new page simply replace the page at the end (in the example above it would be "Sell") with any text you like and when the blank page appears click "Edit this page".

Hopefully it will be hosted on HPC soon enough.

I'd be happy to help with editing (for spelling, grammar, content, readability etc etc), but know nothing about running websites.

It's designed to be very simple to edit. I'll probably need a little help when more people have turned on to this.

As you might recall, I do know a bit of BASIC, if that's helpful.

Commodore, Sinclair or BBC basic?

As I discovered only a little while ago, there is already a wiki on the housing bubble - see past thread:

http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/ind...ndpost&p=181090

True enough, but that's a Wikipedia entry - not a freestanding wiki.

The wikipedia entry has to follow Wikipedia rules on having a neutral point of view, so it would not be a good base for writing "rebuttal" press releases or warning leaflets.

Rather than grabbing the first editable web/blog programme that comes to mind and bashing in content, we should give a bit more thought to the choice of Wiki platform, for example, the Oddmuse system above calls itself a wiki but (as far as I can see ) doesn’t provide much support for structuring and organising the information or even making it easy to find once it's there.

A more natural choice would be something like these:

MediaWiki (Open source, used for wikipedia, PHP+SQL)

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki

Twiki (Open Source, Perl CGI)

http://twiki.org

I've responded on the wiki.

I do think this is worthwhile and provided what we are moving towards is a rebuttal process rather than a quixotic 'campaign' then if I can help I'd be glad to.

That's excellent. You can start immediately, indeed anyone can. The site is here:

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/HousePriceCrash

Please explore, press "Edit this page" anywhere you like and see how things are structured.

That's cool, when I've got a moment I'll give it a go. wikipedia.com is extremely impressive indeed, in a few years it will be the only definitive source of information. Scary in a way.
