  1. I have heard of a recent crackdown on stamp duty evasion. For example, you pay £250k for a house and say another 25k for fixtures and fittings, worth say only 10k and thus pay the lower duty threshold. Now, does anybody have a clue as to what is deemed a reasonable figure for fixtures and fittings on say a £250k house?
  2. I think that if you trawl back through the HPC, you will find we have studied most of the points raised in the FT article .
  3. The trouble is FF (IMO) EA's have such a dodgy reputation. We sold via Propertybroker website as we were fed up with our EA. He priced our property too high and did not bother to advertise until we hastled him. When he did advertise he got the house dimensions wrong and his photos were under exposed which made our white and pale blue kitchen look dismal! Unless you clear out the shysters then you will get tarred with the same brush. Incidentally, I would never use an EA again. Too many chancers and I cannot be bothered to hunt out the good ones. No offence meant here FF.
  4. Now that is a good one ! Yer man in the street can follow that.
  5. Sense at last ! My son is only 14 - he has more homework than I could have handled at his age.
  6. Did you use some sort of mini acrow and leave it in postion whilst concreting. Maybe a stupid question but what was the ratio of the concrete mixture ? Did the local District Surveyor have a say in the actaul depth ? Glad you said that as I seem to get some odd looks when I mention that I have put a low offer in on a house with subsidence In the same breath, I had some raised eyebrows when I told friends that my last house had dry rot. I just stopped the water intake and kept the cellar (where it was) ventilated - sprayed the place with a chemical compound and that was that. I did cut out the rot but I get the impression that dry rot is really not the dreaded curse that many would have us believe. I tracked down a report by an Indian Prof (dry rot came from Bombay) who basically stated that if you stop the source of moisture you are nearly home and dry. Maybe your experiences differ ?? Might be worth a new thread on this.
  7. Que smoke and enter the fairies. Hey presto ; debt now gone. "Boing"- back into the magic Chinese cave full of laptops and plasma screens. There we are - sorted.

  9. Maybe they should have word with Streatham based journalist Pete Sawyer who has also contibuted to the Times, Mail, the Eye etc. Pete and I spent some time filming around Streatham. We have some nice shots of kids playing with condoms and spent needles. Nobody comes out of Streatham without some tale of woe.
  10. Indeed it is and I should take in a deep breath and read it again. So, banks need only apply to the BOE when they have exhuasted their FRB limit ?
  11. Ok then, I nominate you to get a photo of this rising star in the new constellation of property philosophy. This clot fascinates me, nay, has brought a little tear to my eyes.
  12. Marcus Brilliant has shone in another thread Check out this thread : Countrywide's Profits Collapse External Factors ...... like ? Duh, err, why that Marcus ?
  13. No, I sold at the top. Anger, yes I am angry. Our economy is banjaxed and we are in for a rough ride due to easy credit IMO. Edit Looks like the other posters have a similar outlook.
  14. Losing 89% of your profit has to hurt - at what point do the branches close, and what percentage is it of their overall turnover. It has to happen; they will start lay offs. Why is consumer confidence higher now than last autumn? I would have thought with month upon month of house price drops and now the largest estate agent announcing that their profits are seriously down would reduce the market. I am as puzzled as you are on this. I have my own theory which runs along the lines that a sizeable chunk of our population believe that the governmentt will sort it out - they have faith ! However what am i missing? there shares only dropped just over 1p? I would have though people would offload their shares.... Anyone know what I am not seeing?
  15. Wonder if he would oblige HPC co.uk with an interview ? Could we wangle seagulls in it ?
  16. From our news blog. Any advance on the external factors appreciated. Is Camilla getting married again ? Low clouds. The demise of roof tile manufacturing in Kirkcaldy. Seagulls.
  17. As Phil gives me the creeps could you perhaps have a few clips of him having sex with a dead animal ?
  18. The first Olympic Cafe has just opened in Stratford. We had simlilar enterprises here in Greenwich during the Dome fiasco. All gone !
  19. Gal Bear, no offence here, but did Kirtsy really say that house prices in Greenwich had risen by 10% ? I do come across some of the LT staff now and then - might be worth a mention here. PS Thanks Giraffe
