  1. Yeah it'll soon get financially viable to throw the cheap tat on the fire rather than turn the heating on. There's a primark in Oldham now which will be bad for the charity shops whose prices are higher!
  2. Until the mainstream press leap onto him and rip the facade apart like wolves then nowts going to happen.
  3. It might have been in the one he's just done - things weren't all mentioned in his speech...
  4. "The amendment was not mentioned in the Chancellor's pre-Budget report speech, even though it accounts for 12 per cent of the £2bn tax rises outlined in last week's report" Thats the worryingly dishonest bit. How dare they. How very dare they!
  5. Old fashioned typrwriter look to that. Odd. Focusing on the NHS? Scary stuff seeing as they're saying its two years to do or die. They'll only achieve their goals by sacking all the middle and higher management and putting the resources into front line staff. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/sto...1973866,00.html This says that even the unemployed aren't safe anymore. They'll be forced to get these jobs which are poorly paid, long hours etc. Its a good thing in a way if they could also tackle the sick-culture which exists in many deprieved areas - and to get chavs into work. but the question will be who will employ these people? These will be unwilling poorly motivated workers. Will they have to invent lots of jobs for them too?
  6. John Prescott was on bbc 1 this morning (following on from the John suchet interview ) and he had to say that the waterways have come on really well under labour blah blah blah. But the point is now they're looking at withdrawing funding and returning them to a worse state than in 97 because they'll be completely unusable again. Same with the NHS - they have made it "better" (if you ignore the fact you're as likely to contract a nasty thing whilst in there as get the right treatment) but they're about to turn it all around again by closing it all down and having one central hospital in the UK which can be a supercentre and it'll save on emergecny treatments because you'll all be dead before the ambulance gets there. Ok I exagerate only slightly but they have given and now they are taking away because they don't know how to do things properly. Pensions they might be giving civil servants better conditions (or so it looks) but they can take it all away again anytime they like. Upping retirement age to 65 or 70 as a minimum would solve loads of problems. Everything they do is sleight of hand and they've not made anything better.
  7. You should also watch out for commercial property being offered for huge rents. They do this because after 6 months of no one taking it up they can apply for a change in use and turn it into a house.
  8. http://flood.firetree.net/ check the sea levels on here before buying!
  9. Do you think they'll smell a rat if about 100 people emailed and asked a very similar question? ;-)
  10. The super casino? *the* supercasino? Isn't that going to be at tony's mates place at the dome? Go and ask them to give you the consulation initiation plans and area compensation fielding zones. Make up some more silly phrases and give them hell. (or find out exactly what consulation they're supposed to offer and what stage they're at with their renewal plans for the area) You're almost certainly being asked what colour door you'd like on it. Nothing else. But these things are usually good for a giggle and a free biscuit. If you want to wind your neighbours up print out some inpressive looking charts of how vandalism and crime increase in casino areas.
  11. They're the biggest con ever. They subsidise low pay jobs. Once you get over the fact they're bad from the point of view of anyone who earns too much - They're the first benefit you have to repay. That's such an utter con. The system has been defrauded by dodgy people who don't work in the UK - en masse. They system can't work properly - the old tax credits set for 6 months at a time was still open to abuse but people spent less stressful time paying it back.
  12. So how do you take action against a government? Can individuals take them to court?
  13. Oh god its getting time to leave the country. They'll be charging you next because you live within 5 miles of a swimming pool or post office.
  14. Bus drivers have to put up with school kids too. They're on about 400 quid a week according to the last ads I saw. Which is less than a teacher? Certainly less chance of advancement I think. Teachers and bus drivers are essential to the UK economy though.
  15. Sounds quite incredible. Do all banks have this in the terms?
  16. Will it be seen as a scandal and then they try it all again in a few years and find nothing has changed? There's another how dirty are the hospitals program being done isn't there?
  17. They made big mistakes round Manchester. Opened up some more huge stores and now you have a choice of which one not to go to. Even at the peak of diy spending did they need so many?
  18. Whatever happens get good evidence of the state of the property at the start of the tenancy and at the end.
  19. But she's not mentioned the very worst sort of tenants as those who want repairs doing. The ones who don't like the roof leaking in, or the wind whistling through the windows.
  20. HIs 4 month old has cystic fibrosis according to the bbc new tonight so I suspect he'll take a back seat in politics from now on. Well that'll be the excuse he can use without losing face. Leave the economy to disolve in someone elses hands.
  21. I wanted to go to London a few months ago. Left it until a couple of days before and it was going to cost me £300 on the train - I could have flown for less but the times were really rubbish. In the end I didn't bother....
  22. An aging population brings a lot of problems. Dementia is only one of a whole raft of deblitating disorders. You sound like a smoker who says "But my uncle Sam smoked until he was 120 and he died bungee jumping"
  23. Article in Sunday Times about how fund managers have got stinking rich but left the people who've put money in with very poor returns.
