  1. Today's budget announcement signals a severe curtailment of bloated salaries, non jobs, inflated pensions and waste in the public sector. I can modestly say that, in all probability, these changes have largely come about as a result of the 'tax abuser of the week' slot on this forum. I have been very critical of Mr Cameron in opposition, however I have to give him credit for listening to me. This is a good start David, keep it up.
  2. The problem is that they are not recruiting high calibre people. Many of the people collecting £150k salaries in the public sector would struggle to earn £40k in the private sector.

  7. Local government exist to provide services, not 'make money'. If an event is profitable, it is up to the beneficiaries of the money to organise and pay for the event. As it happens, government have done much to stifle such events. Everything we do these days has to be licensed and wrapped in red tape.

  12. This week we are told that public sector employees and particularly the NHS have vastly higher sick leave levels than the private sector. Sadly they did not publish the Bradford score.. That would have made interesting reading. We have listened to the weasel words of people trying to justify these shameful results. I can save them the bother. The link between reward and performance has been abandonded in the public sector. Recruitment and promotion is now based on nepotism, political prejudice and arbitary targets. In an environment of overstaffing, poor leadership and dissafected employees, can the high levels of sick leave come as any surprise.
