  1. 4k pw = 208k / year gross. Allow 1 month void and a reasonable yield % of 11% and the value of the property is ........ circa £1.75m. Bargain!
  2. I think common consensus on here is it is going down big time. But how to pick the top / bottom points? Would you have taken out a short at $45 on opening day? I'm not brave enough to call things like this, but long term it is only going one way. Back to a more normal p/e.
  3. Go on then, mod me! Oh hang on, what about all the other threads! Come on - look at the thread title!
  4. We already have one. Using it as a space port will cause HPI in the surrounding area. Trebles all round!
  5. Same here I'm in what I consider to be a huge place. If you think I'm self satisfied then that's up to you - I don't think I am. I do understand what's going on, but at the same time I understand that we do not live in a real democracy and I'm a little ant just like everyone else. There is very little we can do to change things. Posting comments on the BBC website or Daily Mail is just a waste of time. They will not change their colours. Ditto voting. Either get on with life, or start a revolution, or heck, just give up. Moaning is just irritating and annoying. Blaming others is worse. Perhaps I have had too many friends / acquaintances who either have gone bankrupt or are really struggling now but yet blame everyone else and fail to see how they climbed into the hole they are now in. And moan about it. They look at me (and few others like me) and make snide comments. Should I feel obliged to use my savings or taxes to bail them out? Hmm? Should I feel sorry for them? Hmm? Or should I use all my available sarcasm and really turn the screw like all the HPC-warriors on here? Look at the moaning on this website. Has it changed from circa 10 years ago? Has anyone got on with their lives (be it buying , renting or otherwise)? You can tell by the famous names who have gone missing, presumably to get on with their lives.
  6. Plenty. Plenty in shoeboxes who do indeed moan about the lack of space. Really? Blame someone else rather than yourself? I am currently in the mood of having no sympathy whatsoever for people who moan about their personal situation yet are unable to see how they placed themselves in it. I initially meant people who bought, but thinking about it I think I do mean everyone. In your post you mention southern half of the country. So what's wrong with the rest of the country? Difficult employment? Whose fault is that? Oooh it's the gubbermint's fault they don't make enough jobs for the likes of me up norf so I have to stay in Lundin innit. Dammit emigrate or do something. Sitting in a shoebox moaning about the unfairness of the world is stupid.
  7. Nobody forced them to sign on the dotted line, did they? This situation has arisen because people will sign on the dotted line.
  8. Thing is, most young people already have. It's the scuba gear, motorcycles, parachutes, surf boards, guitars and other what nots that get in the way. And that's before one has to find space for the crib. The build standards are poor, but quite frankly, people who find themselves in a shoebox only have themselves to blame.
  9. One property is 235 sq m, the other is 335 sq m. That may contribute a bit. It's not about bedrooms, is it?
  10. Would she pass the ccc test? I certainly enjoyed the programs. Edit: Jesus I just read the last bit about having taken both Introductory courses - I wonder how much those cost!
  11. So, anyone here invested in storage companies 5 years ago?
  12. Heh. Unfortunately you are a horse, not a pig therefore equal but not as equal. In any case I thought all the camps had strict policies that were strictly ignored.
  13. You don't get it, do you. Join occupy for access to drugs and sex, what's not to like? Twas ever thus.
  14. In one or two seaside tourist towns during high season you don't even have to bother with the kit. A plastic chair and a bottle of cider is all you need. You can even be topless, there'll still be people giving you cash to park on land that may or may not belong to you.
  15. Just a wee correction, Brent is 113 and will continue to rise relentlessly.
  16. Ah I see why I've never had to consider bmibaby. I've always avoided Ryanair on principle and that's never been a problem either. I suppose having easyJet at your local airport and London within reasonable distance helps.
  17. Haha you are showing yourselves up. Go look up the price earnings , or even price / possible future earnings ratios (no one dares mention actual loses, no!) of the last tech boom then you'll get a real idea of what the bubble could be. Try 100 p/e for starters. If you gamble right you could multiply your money in a few weeks. P.s. there are good companies out there at circa 5 times earnings but boy are they hard to find.
  18. Never been tempted to take one of their flights. Where do they actually fly to, that isn't accessible by other airlines?
  19. Makes more sense for cider, home brew comes in at 80-100p for decent stuff, whereas you can rarely bulk buy for under 180p unless its shite like magners on offer in Tesco. And with a bit of practice you can start having fun like making a summer strawberry cider. I'm sure one can drive the costs down further by gathering apples and making a press, but tbf I can't be arsed with all of that. I agree about beer and lagers, doesn't save much money but fun nonetheless. P.s. not that long ago I was complaining about a tenner not covering 3 pints, I'm sure it won't be long before it stops covering 2 pints down the pub.
  20. I don't care what the minutiae is. Even shares you hold in your name can be taken away from you, won't take much. I personally believe even self-organised pensions such as SIPPS are vulnerable. People just don't get how big / bad a ponzi scheme the entire concept is, and what our demographic time bomb is going to do to it.
  21. Unfortunately the people older than you probably feel the same way (ie it's my money, being held in my name etc). When push comes to shove you will lose your money to them, if not already, and will depend on younger people like yourself joining the scheme and providing enough contributions to fund your retirement. You won't lose your pension in a single stroke, it will be a long term series of small changes, like the one highlighted in this thread until eventually you realise your pension is worthless. The earlier you realise this the better, obviously.
  22. I did say I managed not to smirk. It seemed obvious to me anyway, and I'm no engineer. To be fair to him, he is fairly specialist, I think he is most like a physicist than an engineer.
