  1. Bl**dy h*ll ! So why can't my sister get a quote below £250k for a 130m2 two storey extension to her house. That's £1923 psm. Does Northumberland exist in some sort of parallel universe?
  2. Good man. Cheers ! Baby was crying & I missed the first half.
  3. I wish Hamish woulod get into a 140 page fight with Sibley instead. At least it's be entertaining even if not necessarily informative. I can't understand or be bothered understanding half of the inverted details of sub-sub-sub-arguments that Injun & A&K get into. At least Hamish and Sibley just talk absolute nonsense.
  4. Interesting slant on a simple set of statistics, Hamish. Here's the raw data. 32% want house prices to rise 30% want house prices to fall 34% want house prices to stay the same 4% don't know WTF they want Looks like a pretty even 3 way split (depending of course on how the question was phrased). However, the BBC presented this as a bear scenario ... "Most people in Great Britain would not welcome a pick up in house prices ... ... Only 32% ... want prices to go up" You, Hamish, presented this as a bull scenario ... "And a recent BBC poll seems to agree with me ... ... Only 30% of people want price falls." We know already that the BBC is the totally discredited tool of the monetarist thug Gordon Broon-Mandleson and his licksplittle henchman Alistair Darling-Allsopp and cannot be relied on. But I'm surprised at you falling into the same trap, and risking jeapordising your hitherto excellent reputation for fair and balanced argument by presenting statistics in a less than impartial way. I am deeply shocked !
  5. hmmm - the Namibian pilot did show some benefits. If it frees young women from having to engage in transitional sex, and encourages shebeen owners to behave more responsibly, then the benefit to rabbits who will experience a 20% drop in illegal hunting will be well worth the legislation. What about the ferrets, though - what will they do ? ...
  6. Almost, but not quite ... small market town called Totnes actually - it's no secret since I've posted on the Anthony Steen thread. High St. position - music shop. I've been watching Allsops' for over 2 yerars now - the odd Fleet Walk site comes up, but whoTF wants to trade in Fleet Walk. It IS like Gateshead, but it always has been. I can't remember a period where there weren't loads of voids there. I'd rather mow Anthony Steen's lawn weekly for the next 10 years than trade in Fleet Walk. My point was that you're damning all commercial freeholds as near-worthless, and you seem knowledgeable, yet the point you make is way OTT. BTW, want a laugh? I'm up in Hexham at the moment, and there's quite a nice stone town centre investment proprty up for sale. Only trouble is, the agent is a tad ambitious with the price: Rental income £29.4k. Yours for £700k http://www.rightbiz.co.uk/buy_business/for...humberland.html If I were Hamish, I'd post this one as proof that things are hunky-dory. But I'm not Hamish
  7. Don't forget, Labour MP's always get disgraced over money, and Tory MP's over sex. I want to see Old Holborns's top 20 MP mistresses / rentboys list. Tories will def. score at least 16/20 there.
  8. A bit OTT, SNCR !. I'm a retailer / importer and trade is down 12%. from 2 years ago. But you can't buy a freeehold High St. shop in my town for ANY amount of money - 90% of retailers are happliy surviving, albeit on slightly reduced profitability. I'd be more than happy to pick up a couple of half-price freeholds, if ony there were some available. Sigh ! Maye you're talking about Gateshead city centre and other similar grotty areas where every shop is a multiple, operating on fully leveraged financing, some teetering on the edge of pre-pack. Fortunately, it's only a small part of reality, and you really should try to experience the wider picture.
  9. As a small importer who finds the roller-coaster ride of the USD more than a little difficult when trying to time shipments, I'd be quite happy to deal in Yuan instead. It might make me feel a little uneasy about the political and maybe human consequences, but product price negotiation would simplify immensely. Since half the High Street is full of Chinese goods, then I may not be the only one feeling this way.
  10. Gosh - It's lucky then that Rightmove aren't a vested interest, and that we can rely on their data as unbiased in any way. I'm sure they would never stoop to 'ramping' the market ...
  11. You're always going to get some extreme views on this kind of situation dewi, so I'd just chill a bit. I've been a tenant in the past experiencing paranoid landlords, and a landlored 20 years later with feckless tenants who trash the place, so I'd have posted two different points of view 20 years apart. Be gentle - some of the HPC crew are still in the early stages of the process.
  12. M****** P****, a seven branch firm of Devon EA's, not normally known for underpricing property, appear to be scenting a new Green Shoots bonanza, and want to increase their numbers so deal with the anticipated sharp upsurge in house sales. ----------------------------------------------------------------- "After the difficulties in the financial markets last year and the challenges that the housing market faced we are pleased that confidence in bricks and mortar is returning. As a result we are looking to offer opportunities for the following: Country House Manager A professional estate agent with a minimum of 10 years experience dealing with the country house market. New Homes Negotiators We have a number of new developments which require manning over the weekend. Relevant experience is essential. Full Time Sales Negotiators A great opportunity for either a trainee or experienced sales negotiator. Sales experience would be a distinct advantage. Weekend Negotiators If you have a passion for property with some relevant sales experience and are prepared to consider flexible weekend work we would like to hear from you. For an application form please email angie@m***********.co.uk or telephone 01548 ****** …………………the future is bright!" ----------------------------------------------------------------- Would any HPC'er care to rewrite this ad to more realistically reflect the true nature of the job and its prospects. Or I can pass their phone number on to any waverering bears ...
  13. Spanky, spanky ! They always said that Labour scandals were about money, and Tory scandals were about sex. But this crop of Tories swimming pool expenses claimants seem to be breaking the mould. Was Michael Barrymore there too?
  14. wot - you mean like Postman Plod from Viz Comic ? And if my postman whistled a gay tune as he walked up my garden path greeeting me with a cheerful "Good morning Mr. 5thumbs" as he handed me several letters from Bootle, Lancs, all containing premium bond prizes, ... how would I know if it was Sibley or not? Apart from the fact that Maidstone is quite a way from 'sunny' Devon, that is ...
  15. But tomorrow's prices will be much dearer - Sibley said so himself. Are you Sibley's alter ego ?
  16. At the risk of 'losing friends and alienating people' , I think Hamish's point is a relevant one. Nationwide's seasonally adjusted price rise / fall last week just adds to the confusion for most people except skilled data miners: -0.4% and yet average house prices rose. I vote for scrapping the 'seasonally adjusted' element of the monthly data, but I'm just a poor country boy from sunny Devon, so what do I know?
  17. "Recreational Products" ? C'mon - don't be shy. I'm dying to know ... Do they run on batteries?
  18. Korean (Samick), although it's only a matter of time before Beijing takes no. 1. Yamaha are just protecting themselves by planning ahead (something that the UK isn't always too great at ...). I've bought 4 pianos in the last 5 years - not one of them a Kemble. Kemble = not a lot of use for (1) festies (2) pub gigs (3) wedding gigs (which fortunately cross-subsidise the other 2 categories))
  19. Good man ! Me neither. I got mine 'snipped' years ago - never regretted it for a minute. You get to pick and choose your own rubbish elsewhere instead of having someone else's choice of rubbish beamed 24/7 into your home.
