That may well be true, but many out there in ITV-land won't be aware that in order to save money you have to... and I'll type this slowly just in case I lose anyone in the complex explanation... s p e n d l e s s t h a n y o u e a r n.

Maybe if I add a few more spaces I could pad out a whole half hour?

In the next show we'll be exploring more subtle concepts, like not buying a Ferrari every month (one a year is quite enough), and inviting readers to send an SAE and cheque for £73.52 for the correspondence course in advanced financial management*.

I can act camp and know about saving. Can I have my own show too? You can put it on ITV2 if you like - I don't mind.

Just find me the usual couple of smirking oafs that spend £300 a month on Staburcks and I'll sit down at their dining table and work out a financial budgeting strategy (tell them to take a flask to work) while they gormlessly nod approval.

When it comes to economic cycles, I am not sure when they begin or end and desperately need your advice.

I helped make the household-sector debt to breach the £1trn mark and the nation’s trade deficit is £58bn, one of the worst on record. Pointers in the right direction to solving this might be helpful.

So far, I have been lucky in not many people noticing my incompetence but I am not so sure that I can keep up the illusion.

I have sold lots of assets to cover my spending habits. I dabble in the financial markets and was pretty good at selling gold at great knockdown prices. I have some more of this shiny stuff just hanging about in the basement which can be sold if needed.

My pension situation is in a right mess, however, I have imposed a £5 billion tax on private pensions to help to pay for public sector ones, which personally think is a good move.

I have to be honest I'm more than a little surprised at the vehemence shown above. I had no clue the production company had posted here, and was scanning through as i do every few weeks, as I have a level of sympathy in the viewpoint held by HPC.

What shocked me is the complete closed mindedness and generalisation. My site is constantly linked to from these boards as a complimentary resource. The idea that I do 'stop spending' as a solution to saving money is laughable, and i assumed HPCers were more savvy than that.

MoneySaving is all about taking on big companies and not letting them rip cash out of your pockets, while 'don't have a frapuccinio' if you can't afford it is of course sensible, it's about number 526th on the list of things to do. Way after using fees free mortgage brokers, playing your banks tems and conditions, stoozing (if you're up to it) etc.

The fact that you use this as another Kirstie bashing thing surprises me. Because Kirstie is on the TV that doesn't mean 'all people on the TV' have the same view, Borders sells Kirsties books, doesn't mean all books are the same. I'd thought you'd welcome some financial realism.

In case you're wondering this isn't a punt for more case studies, my own site has roughly 30 times the traffic of HPC anyway, just a little note of dissapointment in the knee jerk reaction.

In business and online you live by your reputation and the actions you and your representatives make. In this case your representative picked a forum to post and message and then without reading any content on the site posted a stupid advert on every single topic within it.

Your reply does not redeem the damage that she did. Yes some people here may have slightly overreacted but I lay odds that they have done less damage to this sites representation then she has permanently done to your over here.

To answer your question.

I have many times cautioned about house prices on air. In fact if you search this very forum you will see discussions about it.

You can read in the archive of my blog my frustration about the assumption that "house prices will always rise"

I never predict house prices, I'm a specialist in best product and playing the system, not futurology. Yet i do believe we are close to the 'greater fool theory' where many have bought houses at unrealistic prices saying "i think a 'greater fool' than i will pay even more for it'.

These are things i have said many times on my regular current outlets, ITV news, Tonight with Trevor and Radio 2. I know you think there is some conspiracy out there - well there isn't. As for whether it will be in the programme I'm doing - who knows, i doubt it will come up that often as its not this particular subject, and i don't touch investment.

What there is, is production companies desperate to flog programmes about property. They search for propety experts who in almost every case work in the property industry and whose income is derived from the increase in house prices - this is why you get the unanimity.

Someone talks about financial porn replacing this. I've seen the trends on TV myself. One of the great problems is again TV progs look at financial advisers, who have their vested interest in perpetuating the financial serives industry. In my case i'm an ultra-specialised journalist.

Yes I have an agenda too but mine is 'consumer revenge', the motto for my work is "we spend our lives being screwed by companies for profit, i want to show you how to screw them back'. This very naturally means a lot of what i say puts me at odds with established finanacial services and property wisdom - yet i get more coverage than most.

TV doesn't really care it just wants interesting programmes. To be honest i've turned some down which i believed were unethical (alternatively you could argue i turned some down which went against what i normally say and i didn't want to impact my brand). I remember once being told "while we know you're the number one expert on this subject, we need an older woman to do it" and then brought in someone who really didn't have a clue.

So is there an agenda on the TV! Absolutely, but its nothing to do with property prices and trying to keep them up, it's more to do with where they recruit the presenters from.

As for posting on here by the production company?

To be honest its a big team, based in manchester, and this is what they do. I am employed by them once filming starts to present and be the expert, yet i don't work for them now and have nothing to do with this process.

However as my name is in the above post, after seeing it, I did email to ask if they had permisison to post on the board before doing so - as i automatically block any such posts without permission on my forum. I don't yet know whether there was permission and i have asked them to make sure they always check permission - i think its a case of not understanding forum etiquette.

If there wasn't permission, then whilst i had nothing to do with it, i accept the responsibility as the front man and i wholeheartedly apologise.
