50 cool 50 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 So this is the story so far Mikey..... Some bully started a thread slating Dubai at every opportunity, and it was fit for intended purpose, and every tom, Dick, and harry wanted to give their opinion and jump on a bandwagon at any chance, any good thing thing going on in Dubai would be argued into a negative at every opportunity (why I do not know, Dubai is great) i So I thought it was about time someone gave a more realistic and balanced thread a chance for people that are genuinly interested in the positive aspects in Dubai Such as living there, the Dubai community, lifestyles, eating out, investment, economics, good places to eat, get a reasonably priced haircut??? This is a thread for real people that are genuinly interested, and are not depressed doom and gloomers, don't have hang ups and are open to discover, and learn why Dubai is and continues to be a great city Please save your depressing posts for your doctor or Dubai on a Knife edge thread thanks Quote

The Coffee Grinder Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I lived in Dubai for quite a while now, Me and wife really like it, we've opened 2 coffee shops and we are considering a location for our third now Dubai to us home. We have a good network of friends, we have a good standard of living, we feel safe where ever we go in the city, and we have got great weather all year round. People say Dubai is expensive, but i think anywhere is expensive if you eat out every night, we live day to day relatively cheaply, groceries are not as expensive as the U.K thats for sure Its true nowhere is perfect , but we like Dubai Quote

Do you work for Mi5 or something? all the same person? you bore me Just because you lost a fortune on your property in england or wales or where-ever, don't have sour grapes at the rest of us who are doing O.K Your very entertaining and everything but on a more calm note,You know, if everything turned out as you and the other doom mongers say it will, then it will be a case of philosophy if people have no buying power/no confidence, all you will have is your philosophy on life to carry on And my philosophy is, I never got into the borrowing culture, anything i got is clean and clear People will always need somewhere to live, even if they have nothing, and so rents will always be stable and coming in, and going up in line with inflation so I'm not worried either way, i can ride out an economic storm or two but just for your information, i think Dubai is going to stand the test in these hard times For sure it will definately not suffer on the scale that the USA and UK has seen Edited October 9, 2008 by 50 cool 50 Quote

pootle Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Is this thread sponsored by the Dubai Tourist board then? You can only look at the positive aspects and not at the whole? If you don't look at the whole then how do you get an idea of the reality? Quote
forestfire Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 I have been really disappointed by all the negative responses to this posting. Can't we all take our happy pills and believe in the magical fantasy world where property prices in Dubai go up up up and never come down? Can't the Dubai property agents at least have one thread which flies in the face of reality ? Bring on the insanity! Quote

If you don't look at the whole then how do you get an idea of the reality? This is exactly my point about the the other threads on here, but illustrated in reverse I mean I have every respect for people that make a critical post based on facts or a bibliography of proven sources, but when someone says unreasonable things just for the sake of argument...... ...This thread is not sponsored by anyone, but if the Dubai tourist board want to give me money then I shall embrace it with open arms.... pootle Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) OK, well I looked at the other thread and both sides of the argument are being expressed. In fact the second reply was a contrary (pro Dubai) point. So where's the problem? Edit - just noticed there are 2 other threads. Edited October 10, 2008 by pootle Quote

50 cool 50 Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Reminds me of the Bristol channel and the Thames, in fact every waterway in the British isles.... Cant be be as bad as that river running through the center of Bangkok though.... ....or them rivers that run through amsterdam what all the sewage runs into.... ehm,,.... I'm seeing a pattern here.... I ponder with the thought, is there any seas or rivers in the world that don't contain sewage? Quote

DXB has a great ability to turn a blind eye on whatever law is inconvenient, until they need it. You will often hear of women being deported "for a lewd act" then when the woman's name is read out, surprise surprise, she turns out to be Russian. Prostitution is illegal too, but you wouldn't guess that if ever you visited "Russian Beach". Every so often someone oversteps the mark and gets deported. Quote

What really got me was dual laws ie one for local Emarites & other for all foreigners. Local E can literally get way with murder, can jump queues, do whatever they like & rearly get punished. The Coffee Grinder Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Hey i saw that in the news in Dubai You cant blame the police really , they probably thought she was soliciting herself. If the police in the U.K has have seen 2 people having sex in the street in England, i'm sure the same would have happened. Have some self control for pete's sake. Quote
