Our lives would be changed.” ---- Oh dear ...
HouseDog
This is the old caretakers house at Parklands Lower School - so I presume owned by the council. TheCountOfNowhere
Northants Land Registry this month, up 0.6% MOM down 2% YOY Looks like we are stuck in no mans land, thought I am not surprised at these figures with the way the top end properties have been flying off the shelves. This madness has got to end soon I hope. This came on the market today; http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-35329322.html £650K !!!!! near Abington park. At the peak of the housing market one of the biggest house on Abington park crescent sold for near that. The asking prices are silly and I for one cant see me buying anything until there is a proper collapse. The low interest rates/london ripple really is f**king us all over. I feel sorry for the peolpe buying at the top end now, it's like they dont realise they are paying 50% too much. exiges
Here's one for Exiges...think they are getting desperate: Shame about the agricultural occupancy requirement.. oh, and the fact it's so ugly.. but yes, definitely a move in the right direction. There are a couple new houses on today that I reckon would have been marketed higher in normal times. Gotta love that comment in the BBC article yesterday about sellers appearing greedy. TheCountOfNowhere
Gotta love that comment in the BBC article yesterday about sellers appearing greedy. I disagree with the BBC on that....they appear greedy and stupid !!! One of the houses we viewed recently, and liked, has been taken off the market, the vendors have decided not to sell Our feedback was that it was priced at 150K more than they paid for it in 2007. And the market had dropped 20% since then so we'd only offer something around 270K under asking price. I guess a few people gave the same feedback
exiges
A couple more in our radius that aren't stupidly priced, just overpriced. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-31627234.html £675 for a 5 bed with 5 acres + separate annexe, that'd have been £850 in 2007

I'd prefer to pay that price for that one than the one you missed out on.

Yep, I can imagine Mrs Exiges going to town on my credit card doing it up, and could have just bought a better house in the first place. This one looks reasonable for your Northampton townies http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-35007905.html

I think some agents are a tad desperate to get any new property instructions, and I suppose, desperation is why some EAs waste their time with sky high property prices. Overpriced ? That's an underestimate, it's a joke.. a bad joke. How it got planning is anybody's guess.. Have you seen what the plot looked like before those houses were built ? ( STREETVIEW) The old house (that's still there) looked lovely, in a nice spacious plot.. and now.. it's an abomination. I'd prefer to pay that price for that one than the one you missed out on. We went to view it today, and while the grounds were lovely, the house was a bit of a disaster. I'm no giant, just 6'2 but the doorway to the living room so low it was at chest height, with a cushion stapled to it to prevent injury (no really). No wall, beam, or floor was straight or flat.. OK, so you kinda expect that from an old house, but this was to ridiculous levels.. being grade listed all wiring, plumbing couldn't be trunked through walls so were exposed in an unsightly way.. worse still was the level of woodworm, on even the "modern" 80s panelling.. going into the attic the roof beams were riddled and crumbling.. we couldn't get out quick enough. It seems an economically unviable house, by the time we'd spent the money it requires to sort things out (subject to planning) we could just have bought a decent house. (with cash to spare). No doubt it'll go under offer soon as a developer gets planning to convert the annexe into a house of its own and splits the property up, as is the way. I bet that wasn't in the estate agents brochure? I couldn't live in a house with low ceiling either - I've been shown a view properties where the owner has added bedrooms in the roof space but there is no headroom. I'd always be looking for short women to go out with just in case I got sued when someone hits their head!

Yes - most interest only 'home owners' are really long term renters from their mortgage company. I doubt the majority have any plan or investment running to pay of the loan. exiges
Going to view another tomorrow, in Everdon, 5 bed (inc annexe).. with Michael Graham.. Update.. nice enough house I guess.. but the bedrooms were way too small, upstairs there were just 3 bedrooms, 2 were just 8x6 boxes and the other was narrow and only had room for a double (not king/queen size) and no room for side tables. The kitchen at first glance looked nice until we wondered where the freezer was.. or the hob (the aga had 2 rings).. or where the microwave was.. etc.. or space for a washer and tumbler (we have a 3yr old, we need both running !) there was simply no space for those things.. and the EA said we could put a freezer and tumbler in the garage.. Not ideal, since call me a bluff old traditionalist, I'd quite like to put a car in the garage. The icing on the cake was the EA saying they were looking for full asking. NEXT !
