Historically, house prices have always been higher in the US but no longer. To see a grubby flat for 450k you know that its all hype and will not last. When you compare value with properties overseas it is not difficult to see a correction here of the order of 60%. Gordon "Miracle Econmy" Brown's debt filled housing bubble does not have much longer to survive and there are more than enough needles out there ready to pop it. benjamin
no, you misunderstand, the dresden price is actually the annual upkeep costs.
Mr Blek
I'm moving to Germany to buy that castle. My cousin is buying a house in Germany for 300,000 euros with 8 bedrooms. For the same amount here, you'd get an average to semi decent 3 bed house. Ridiculous.
Realistbear
My sister is looking at houses in Southern France and has hundreds to look (she thinks many are Brits dumping holiday homes to pay off debts back home)`at for around E 120,000. These are nice 3 bedroom character properties that require very little in the way of upgrading. That is about 1/4th of the price of a similar property in the UK. They paid 240K for a 2 bed flat. I was expecting something special when I first saw it, but I was shocked to see that it resembled a student halls of residence. The bedrooms are tiny, and the sitting room, dining room and kitchen are combined in a room the size of your average lounge. Total rip off. right_freds_dead
i think we now have the most expensive property in the world - not bad for a cold, grey country full of fri/saturday night drunks. whys it so expensive to live here ? is it because its really good ? nope. its because of house price extortion. Property Dreamer
The problem with high house prices in this country now is that housing and the cost of it appeals so well to the British mindset. Not only is housing somewhere to live it's also a very visible symbol of your stake in this society, a pension plan, a cash machine and a status symbol. Don't forget that the British came up with the phrase 'cherished number plate' and any race that could come up with that idea deserves everything that's coming to it. Status seeking is as bad now as it was in the days when the Hoorays described their properties as "Hizes". Today its not so much about having a nice house but a property empire. NuLabour capitalism based on HPI to create a new landlord class. The unacceptable face of capitalsim.

RichM
Great excuse to post these lyrics: Out of control Out of control Out of control Sometimes I fell that I missunderstood The rivers run and deep right through my thought Your naked body lying on the ground You always get me up when I’m down And it always seems we’re runnin’ out of time, We’re out of control Out of control Out of control Maybe I’m just scared of losin’ you Or maybe it’s the things you make me do It seems to me we both should hang around And raise the population of this town And it always seems we’re runnin’ out of time, We’re out of control Out of control We’re out of control Out of control But it doesn’t mean we’re too far down the line We’re out of control Out of control The record player keeps on turning round It could be stuck or maybe it’s a sound All the time I should be there with you But maybe I’m just searchin’ for the truth Or maybe I’m just searchin’ for the truth And it always seems we’re running out of time. We’re out of control Out of control We’re out of control Out of control But it doesn’t mean we’re too far down the line We’re out of control Out of control We’re out of control Out of control Could be that I’m just losing my touch Or maybe you think my moustache is too much Satellite is out of control But you and I are brothers of the soul And you and I will come in from the cold Out of control, out of control We’re out of control Out of control
The Masked Tulip
Surely this is Colditz castle! You get the revenue from the tourists and the royalties from the board game thrown in for the price! Shame about the ghosts though. I bet it has nice dungeons! Everybody on earth dies and goes to heaven. God comes and says, "I want the men to make two lines -- one line for the men that dominated their women on earth, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women. Also, I want all the women to go with St. Peter." The next time God looked, the women are gone, and there are two lines. The line for the men who were dominated by their women was 100 miles long, and in the line of men who dominated their women there was only one man. God got mad and said, "You men should be ashamed of yourselves. I created you in my image, and you were all whipped by your mates. Look at the only one of my sons who stood up and made me proud. Learn from him! Tell them, my son, how did you manage to be the only one in this line?" The man replied, "I don't know, my wife told me to stand here."
