  1. It's always flooding here, I don't doubt it's going to be bad as they seem to get it right, mostly.
  2. The flood defences here went up over the weekend, but then they're always going up so I wouldn't read too much into it.
  3. I've certainly been coming to that conclusion over the weekend.
  4. The dollar is just as much toast, surely.
  5. A couple weeks back I spent a number of days drawing out the max I could from the ATM and I now have a months salary in cash, plus a few gold coins. In the cellar there's a chest freezer (that I picked up on Freecycle recently) full of bottled water, milk and bread (plus a few bottles of vodka). Loads of flour, yeast & oil plus a couple boxes containing value noodles, beans, toms, instant mash and some painkillers. I also have a calor gas heater with a full bottle plus a decent camping stove that I would set-up in the house. Oh and a wind up radio and 2 wind up torches. As we have a caravan all of this stuff I had already had except the cash, gold and the larger then normal amounts of food. I've 3 kids so that won't last long but then I'm not preparing for anything other than a short-term breakdown, though I do have 25 litres of IPA brewing in the corner just in case Talking of nutters check this guy out, he doesn't need to stockpile anything: http://www.breatharian.com
  6. I'm surprised you've not turned sigs off in your settings... Agreed, though the times I've experienced issues I suspect it's more of a server-side issue, not the third party ad software. Next time it happens might be worth a short term disabling of javascript to check & see if that speeds things up.
  7. Just land, though I'm tracking stuff with houses on it too.
  8. My understanding was that building plots were dropping like a stone but that good quality agri land was actually holding its value or possibly going up due to rich bods buying it up to reduce tax exposure or hedge against inflation. I would certainly be interested in any evidence or opinions on this either way. As someone considering buying a smallholding in 2010 I've been watching small (< 10 acres) agri plots on RM for a while and they are definitely shifting in the areas I'm looking.
  9. Can I get a cut? I'm supply the 50m extension leads, daisy chained together linking Iceland, via your islands, to Scotland.
  10. I got it. £259K for that soulless POS that's been on the market since at least Feb without a price drop. That's the joke, right?
  11. I agree with all of this. All the signs are pointing to deflation but if (when?) the dollar goes pop things are likely to become very different.
  12. How do you say “This sucker is going down” in Icelandic? http://ftalphaville.ft.com/blog/2008/10/03...n-in-icelandic/
  13. I won £50 this month! Heh, we've now reached the dizzying heights of a 1% return over 12 months
  14. You might want to consider changing your forum settings to the max 40 posts per page and whilst you're there hide sigs. It's only 8 pages then, and you've less crap to trawl through.
  15. Congrats on your imminent arrival. Rent, surely it makes sense to rent when it's cheaper than buying and you've got a good chance of picking up a bargain as well. An option to keep the Mrs on side would be to rent something better than you can afford to buy. FWIW we rent after 10 years of ownership and have had 3rd child during this period, it's no big deal. Ideally rent from long-term landlord rather than an accidental as the latter is more likely to be a penny pinching mo-fo.
