A couple weeks back I spent a number of days drawing out the max I could from the ATM and I now have a months salary in cash, plus a few gold coins.
In the cellar there's a chest freezer (that I picked up on Freecycle recently) full of bottled water, milk and bread (plus a few bottles of vodka). Loads of flour, yeast & oil plus a couple boxes containing value noodles, beans, toms, instant mash and some painkillers. I also have a calor gas heater with a full bottle plus a decent camping stove that I would set-up in the house. Oh and a wind up radio and 2 wind up torches.
As we have a caravan all of this stuff I had already had except the cash, gold and the larger then normal amounts of food.
I've 3 kids so that won't last long but then I'm not preparing for anything other than a short-term breakdown, though I do have 25 litres of IPA brewing in the corner just in case
