  1. We won’t see any second wave this Summer I think. Big ? for this fall/winter though. Main reason is thermodynamic. Virus spreads through droplets, this is water, with temperature above 20 degrees I’ve read it only takes 20 seconds for this waterish substance to disappear, an the viruses contained in it to die. Winter temperatures plus humidity a different story though.
  2. We might see some minor event. Maybe something already seen back in the 70’. However, discontent in the UK has been channeled towards the EU and people had their vote. You need a very powerful message to keep people on the streets for weeks. This message is not present in the country. Well if a police officer kills a black guy something could happen, however, Black British are in a much better position than their brothers in the US. Racisms is not systemic in Europe, and it’s not a foundation of the State and the rule of law. I mean, the UK never needed a Martin Luther King.
  3. CicilWar trending on Twitter. You never know who’s behind hashtags however, we are starting seeing footages of heavily armed people on the streets. This is a Alt-Right coup, I warned you. Things will get very bad in the US. Could I ask to bring back this discussion in the main section? I appreciate this might not be relevant to HPC, however this is potentially the event of the decade. I believe it needs some more visibility. Thanks
  4. Isn’t the 35 billion bill to the EU not enough to cover the expenses?
  5. With the deployment of “federal assets” to contain the riots the strategy is becoming even more clear. Mind you DT hasn’t spelled a word to chill out the situation.
  6. Forget about the economy. There’s a clear path here. Alt-right is a proto-fascist ideology where nationalism is sold along with a sort of corporativism plus anti-globalism. I am a liberal, UK and classic version of the term, not the XXI century American add-on. trump and those behind him are in search of a top-down state, because they believe this will protect their industries and economy, are bloody scared about globalisation as, once realised the US cannot control the system anymore, they will loose presence on the world stage. They couldn’t care less about whether American products are being sold worldwide they do not want imports to weaken the American players’ position at home. Now, in order to have such a control on the economy, you need to have a top-down approach, democracy is not useful here. What Trump and his aides are doing here is trying to represent the US institutions as weak, with the federal state and the president as the only place where true and effective decision making process can be achieved. He’s putting gas on flames, but not showing up, he wants the riots on the streets, it’s the only way he can then present himself as the man of law and order. This is classic fascist strategy. This is how Mussolini and Hitler took power. The bad news is that they will probably succeed. The American Congress is powerless, they’re like the Senate in Rome when the Republic collapsed. A brunch of corrupted and not very smart people, still thinking they’re worth what they read on history books. The last line of defend are the States and their governors in the US. They’re the only one in this situation capable of putting obstacles to the march of the Right in the US. They’ve been standings before the bullets from Trump since the start of the pandemic, with the riots the scale of attacks reached even higher levels. The Alt-Right know they’re the last door to smash before getting into the golden room. I wouldn’t be surprised if the re-election campaign from DT will be directed towards the States rather then JB. What I am not sure about is how powerful the States could be if DT pulls the trigger. Will they fight back? Will they secede? Will they just refuse to send their electors in November? Huge chapter to write here.
  7. I think you’re missing the point here. 40 millions people without any income and a President who cannot simply understand what’s going on around him. It’s on e day the Democrats, then China, maybe the EU, now Antifa tomorrow the Media. He should listen now. There’s a lot of pain in America.
  8. 40 million’s unemployed. Serious riots going on. Trump just tweeted people should start using force against those protesting. Also, in seems Anonymous just realised documents containing serious facts about his involvement with sex trafficking. This 2020 is one of those years where everything happens apparently.
  9. It’s not just that, Europeans can’t simply continuing assuming that hundreds of millions of people in the Arab countries are all terrorists. Jews, Arabs and Christians are people of the Book. They will reach a deal, Isreal already shifting towards that with the Arab League. Med countries are starting to realize that a new pax mediterranea is the way forward. And I am on the second point here: we are witnessing the end of the Great Anglo-Saxon Empire. Do not get me wrong, nothing to do with the UK and the US. But the idea that white people, with a certain cultural background had somehow been given from God the right to run the show, has got no place at all in the new world. There will be no place for any sort of exceptionalism, in house and outside. Current events in the US say it all. That world is over, Trump et friends are just the end of the tail, imo. Should I bet a pound I’d say we will now reach a sort of new equilibrium where people will mix together and now more than ever we need the rule of law to join these different pieces together. White Anglo-Saxons have no idea how to build this new architecture, they had it back in 1945, but the world has changed since then. The EU is much more into the game, the Union provides a new scheme, which is of course imperfect, but it certainly is completely different from the old sovereign states tale coming from the alt-right and Russia. I am a Europhile because of that, I couldn’t care less about the federal state, the occasional Farage on tour on a boat in the Channel. Do not bet against new political ideas in Europe. Europeans know a lot better than others in America and Asia how to play this game and how to adapt to new rules without shutting the whole place like China did 500 years ago. Europeans, including the British of course, are by nature looking-outwards, there’s a reason why we reached Asia and they didn’t there are a lot of reason for that, but I don’t want to bore you.
  10. Nothing to do with the currency, sorry. The argument for the currency might be relevant in a relationship between empires and their colonies, something we have seen in the past. However, it is really unlikely that a common currency between Germany and Spain might increase differences. Two countries with relatively similar economic systems, with the same access to capital, workforce and world markets. The difference is the productivity falling in the south and keeping pace in the North (ex-UK). There’s no economic theory, apart from that on the Mail and Express pages, affirming that a currency is linked to productivity. Also, differences will always be there, we are not going to crash the £ because wages in South-East are bigger that those in the North. A common budget already exists and it’s worth several hundreds billions per year. Nobody want to see this growing because most of the money is collected and spent at a national level. Think about Switzerland not the US. If you want to get a sense of what the next 50 years might be in Europe you better have a look at what’s going on in the Med, the pendulum is shifting towards South again, with the rise of China old routes will be on the table again, there are 500 million people living on the Mediterranean, there is money to be made there, it is actually the area with the greatest growth potential along with the South East Asia. The UK left the party, why?
  11. THE package can’t be systemic because this situation is a one-off. Schemes in the UK follow the same logic, they are meant to be something temporary. This has been the response everywhere. Structural reforms will take place at a national level, the EU, whatever you might think, it’s not a source of laws like the US federal gov. Id like to understand what’s the point about the Euro. I’m reading stories around the collapse of the currency since 2008. It doesn’t really look like a currency going to collapse anytime soon. Mr. Draghi was clear enough, whatever it takes, the markets are quite fine trading with Euros and the level of debt in Euros outside the Union is growing at a sustainable pace.
  12. I campaigned for Remain and one of the things that surprised me was the total lack of understanding of the anti-immigration stances in Europe. Whilst the focus was on EE here, this has never been the case in Europe. And there’s a very simple reason for it: the first wave of EE came in when in Rome the Pope was a polish guy. Any attempt to point EEs failed. The point with immigrants in Europe is about people from outside the union, not inside. And is about those from Muslim countries and Africa. Period. Once the wave retreats, there will be no argument left. Honestly, in France, Germany and Italy etc. nobody cares about the polish guy moving to work as a plumber.
  13. You clearly have not been following the recent developments in Europe. That’s fine, because people on this island have given up trying to understand the dynamics in the EU. And that’s the main reason why people chose to leave. The EU is in a great shape, as long as the French-German pact continues. And they have just agreed on a rescue package of around 700 bil Euros. Eurosceptics parties in the south, whose only goal has always been to get some money from the EU, are now rethinking their strategies, and slowly leaving the anti-EU propaganda. People’s focus is on something else now, immigrants and Euro conspiracies will only get bots’ re-tweets now.
  14. This is just the start. Hundreds of companies now realising work can be done remotely, and it seems to be working fine. How long before they realise someone in India can do the same job for half the pay? I fell those low-mid skilled office job will disappear. Only those with something you can’t buy for peanuts will survive. And I am afraid a degree in a no-STEM field without any additional hard skill is something you can find everywhere in 2020. Learn a language, maybe two. Half of the work being done in a developed English speaking country could be done in another part of the globe for a third of local salaries.
  15. Its not just them, we will be in the same situation if the PM was labour and its advisor went through the same storm. This is the exact point in time where someone with some balls could take over the county. The public is focused on something else. And it’s been so for years. I do agree with those who write this story is nothing more than a line on a newspaper. It should be because DC should be at home now, updating his CV.
  16. There are a lot of people out there who don’t care about this. This means nothing to them. now Chapter 2 is going to be a fight between those people in charge and the UK institutions. Parliament, BoE, Civil Service, NHS etc. they will try to control everything, the opposition will be reduced to a puppet and if you say you do not agree you’re an enemy of the people. The brightest will leave, they have no time to deal with this shit which is going to last several years.
  17. Read my post again. The idea you might be telling the truth. He thinks he can treat us like idiots. When someone thinks that, and there’s no response from the public, it’s a green light to do whatever you want. This man in Rome would be back in the country to take care of his sheep. The Romans didn’t build an empire with those kind of people. Lying to the Sanate and to the people...that would not end well.
  18. He’s lying. 100% of the public know that. He went to his father estate to spend the weekend with him, and took the family to a day trip 30 miles from there. Everybody know that. This is not politics anymore. It’s more of a gang war. It’s not just truth that does not matter anymore, it’s the idea you might tell the truth who went six feet under today. as I previously said, the UK is on a south—American/Italian path. These people will ruin the country, no question about that. When someone can feel he can do what he did today, it’s already over folks.
  19. PM is hold by the ****. I can’t see any of his policies go through tbh. This virus has the same effect of a new deck of cards when you play poker. A completely different game starts at that point.
  20. When I purchased my first car I told the sales guy in the dealership I knew they were in the business of selling money not cars. I purchased a 4 years old car, I think at that point I was the third owner. Price was 4000 I remember I told him it’s either 3000 cash or 3500 through finance. I went for the finance as I managed to have the disks and pads changed as well. And that’s something I found out: if the dealer also runs a garage you can ask for new parts and they will do it basically for free. 4 disks plus pads would have costed a little bit less than 500 quid but I was ok.
  21. His channel is a wonderful place. As I said, he’s a CFA course provided, no room for bs when studying CFA, he teaches how to become a financial analyst.
  22. https://youtu.be/_TVbk9lLjbc Listen to this guy. He’s a CFA provider, he knows his stuff
  23. It’s the same everywhere. I can only think about Germany where the HS is not free at the point of service.
  24. If you pay taxes/mutual insurance you can still access. Something you shuold do if you move for 1 year I believe.
  25. You can access for free to very good heath systems everywhere in Western Europe. This is not 1930 anymore. Or do you really think the system in Spain is worse than the English/Welsh one? I love the countryside but I love a warm beach more.
