Darling On Newsnight - Mandelson Ch4
Grimbert replied to ralphmalph's topic in House prices and the economy
Come on we've been hoping for this for months now. There are plenty of dutchboys' fingers to keep plugging the dyke. If I didn't read hpc everyday I'd thing everything was fine in the world. That is what 99% believe so nothing bad looks like happening yet. -
Another Advert Typifing The Current Job Market
Grimbert replied to Boom Boom's topic in House prices and the economy
A quick trip to Monsterinia.com, selecting IT jobs in Mumbai, reveals most vacancies in the 200-500,000 rupee bracket = £2700 - £6700. There are many jobs lower and higher than this band, so I guess this sort of salary would need some experience. link -
Thanks

Single Childfree People - Just Cash Cows?
Grimbert replied to Britney's Piers's topic in House prices and the economy
'Twas years ago. Maybe my taxes would be less without the 'tax credit'. -
Single Childfree People - Just Cash Cows?
Grimbert replied to Britney's Piers's topic in House prices and the economy
You single people subsidise me to the tune of £600 per month tax free through my 'tax credit' free money, plus £200 child benefit. (I'm widowed, 3 children) If I work any extra I lose this at the rate of 64p in every pound through tax, NI and lost tax credit next year. I often provide on-call phone cover, and insist it be time off in lieu and have to do this at a lower rate than overtime else it'll mean I earn get less next year. This country is messed up. I could get married but my gf can't live with us because of the loss of income. Roll on the Tories and we can be a proper family. edit: I don't earn the free cash -
'how We Spent Almost £9,000 In A Month'
Grimbert replied to Grimbert's topic in House prices and the economy
My original question was why the Telegraph would be posting this. After all the family look like complete c***s. Are the Telegraph on our side? -
BOSAD Bank of son and daughter, shurely.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/6953203/Family-finance-where-does-all-your-money-go.html Bless they live in an entirely other world, and all the comments say the same thing. When the Telegraph posted it what reaction were they expecting?

some of us in the private sector wonder whether we have too much stored up in the public sector. I am worried for next year...our biggest customers are either pubic sector or big companies that are supposedly private but all their work is public - like Sodexo for example

So in Ireland are prices for stuff (beer, groceries etc) not going down? Is the collapse in exchange rates not reflected in the price I should pay for a pint next time I go over? Honestly - I don't know. I was there February last year and a pint was €4.30, which is expensive but not extortionate. The duty has been reduced since then.

Celente Again With His New Year Predictions
Grimbert replied to AvidFan's topic in House prices and the economy
No it hasn't but it may do. I refuse to reorganise my 2010 summer holiday based on speculation. We ARE going to America in 2010 whatever the cost. I've decided. -
Oh dear I'm suddenly worried that you might be right. I go to Ireland fairly regularly and never spotted this obvious difference. They have been building houses all over the shop in ireland, relying on commuting like in AUS or USA, though no better build than modern build in the UK. We have missed out on the building frenzy.

I Bought A Silver Coin. What Is It Worth?
Grimbert replied to Grimbert's topic in Gold and other precious metals
I bought myself a birthday present of a 1oz silver $5 Maple Leaf back in November for £14.50 incl. p&p. It's really shiny and it lives proudly in my pewter tankard with all my other foreign coins. However I wouldn't have thought of diversifying out of sterling if I hadn't started reading HPC. When TSHTF how do I cash it in? Will I be able to buy a loaf of bread with it? What if I bought a sovereign? Could I get several loaves or pay the gas bill with it? -
I don't have property in Florida, nor do any of my friends. I wouldn't own property more than 5 miles from my house, let alone 3000 miles away. I had the opportunity to manage a house I part-owned in Leeds where I live in York and I said no sell it I want the cash not the responsibility. Truth be told I don't own any property now. I'm kinda waiting for a house price crash. The cash is paying for a trip to Disneyland in LA, my driving licence will work in CA.

For Those Who Actually Appreciate The Public Sector
Grimbert replied to robo1968's topic in House prices and the economy
When I quote for public sector contracts I deliberately overestimate the number of days required to implement by a factor of 3 or 4. i.e. What I estimate to take 5 days for private sector will take 15 or 20 for public sector or big corporate who rely on public sector contracts. Even then the implementers normally moan at me for not specking it fully enough. they don't have enough time as they are constantly negotiating how the system should work rather than have a decent manager who says 'it works like this. Make it work.' And I pay their pension. Cvnts. -
Ec Action Backs 3.7% Rise For Civil Servants
Grimbert replied to interestrateripoff's topic in House prices and the economy
Don't worry they'll get their pay rise. All of a sudden our subs to the EU look really tiny relative to our deficit. -
My opinion of German property, from German friends is that it has always been expensive. Many (most?) Germans rent because they have rights to stay in their houses and not be chucked out after a year. That is the main reason I want to own a house. Otherwise I wouldn't be ar5ed at these prices. I couldn't bear to watch this programme based on the description on Freeview.

I remember not so long ago paying £1.36 for diesel. The price of Petrol seems to have risen quite high but Diesel is doing a bit better. I wonder why (seriously I have no idea) there is this disparity. I have no vested interest my lovely Volvo has frozen to death, will cost a couple of hundred to mend the frozen electrics. Bloody 'global warming' Swedes

Uk Total Credit Market Debt
Grimbert replied to Assurbanipal's topic in House prices and the economy
Whilst that figure is horrifying and must be the highest ever, is there any relevance? If I add together the money I owe (nothing) and all my colleagues owe (probably something) to the money the company I work for owes, we might end up in 7 figures. But so what? -
I do that to avoid socialising. If I didn't have children and a girlfriend already then I'd be down the working men's club learning salsa for £3 a throw. That's to find a girlfriend not children. I had them anyway.
