  1. One of the big developers with a new local estate has just dropped some 3 beds on the market at 125k. Most of the existing 3 beds are 140-180, and this is quite a nice development compared to most modern efforts.
  2. Only if they are not adding value. Otherwise, they really are paying taxes - they are returning part of the value they create in exactly the same way as a private sector worker.
  3. The land doesn't belong to anyone, nobody made it. The labour doesn't belong to anyone but the people who provide it. Which nationalisations didn't recompense the capital? You are incorrectly assuming the free market as responsible for the efficiencies which technological advances bring, when a very high propertion of these advances receive state funding. I will accept that monopolies will never be as efficient as competitive industries, but in many areas the so called "free market" results in cartels which enrich the capital holders and don't provide any advantages to the end user.
  4. I've thought about it, and yes they do. They pay taxes at the same rate as if they worked for a private company. Are you aware that not so very long ago they were publicly owned companies that made profits, and such companies still exist in many countries. It just so happened that the UK sold them all off under the delusion that the private sector can do everything better. This gives you the misconception that public sector employees are a net drain, yet they provide much of the value in the economy.
  5. Actually, the public sector can get as big as it feels like provided it is not running a trade deficit. It matter not one jot whether tax comes form public or private sector, though obviously corporations tend to make profits
  6. The existence of central banking, which is at the very core of all modern economies, is the fundamental opposite of the free-market. Can any free-market guys name the countries which don't have one?
  7. Protectionism would be good for America. They are one of few countries that has everything it needs within its borders. Most Americans don't even have a passport. It would also be good for everyone else, as they would have to stop feeding the monster of American consumption. Currently Americans consumer around 25% of the world's resources whilst being only 5% of its population.
  8. I think you'll find that everything in this country relies on their being a massive downward re-adjustment in accommodation costs. The rent seekers have strangled out a great deal of the productive capacity and this has to be reversed for the UK to regain competitiveness. The only question is will nominal falls be allowed.
  9. There has never been a free market Or Socialism Or Communism Or anything other than the powerful taking from the masses Red Toryism sounds like more of the same, but with local Oligarchs instead of national ones
  10. Rents are definitely still falling here. My usual search threw up two 4 bed houses and 30 3 bed. 2 years ago, it would have been a handful of three beds but mostly 2 beds.
  11. Do the workers in these countries give half their take home pay to the older generation to be allowed a roof over their heads?
  12. People aren't paid what they are worth, they are paid the minimum that the employer can get away with, two very different things.
  13. I find it laughable that Labour are so anti-Labour in their taxation policy, given that they seem to want it so highly taxed. It's high time the burden was shifted away from taxing work and into taxing rent-seeking activities, particularly land and housing.
  14. IT is boring. I'd rather stick skewers down me Japs Eye than do another day in front of Visual Studio. There's more to life than money.
  15. Surely they don't need 500 people advising on cooking, cleaning and mending clothes.
  16. Never been more choice round here. 3 bed detached in nice streets have fallen into my price bracket. 2 years ago when I rented the current place, you could maybe get a 2+1 bed terraced house for the same price.
