NorthamptonBear
Anyone for self build in/around Northampton? Any existing groups? Better as a group, more lobbying power, ability to buy a suitable piece of land and subdivide, also I believe proposed/actual changes to planning other laws may help (memory). http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=197774&view=findpost&p=1102496722 Edited April 7, 2014 by NorthamptonBear

I don't know of any self build groups in Northamptonshire - but I suspect there would be takers if the price was right. I don't know of any self build groups in Northamptonshire - but I suspect there would be takers if the price was right. Might be on interest: http://www.plotbrows...orthamptonshire I cross linked to self build part of HPC forum. Probably a bit dumb but was in rush. The biggest problem is finding land and even harder is to find reasonably priced land. Hence http://www.selfbuildportal.org.uk/latest-news/278-breaking-news-budget-2014 My emphasis :- " £150m of funding will be made available to help deliver up to 10,000 serviced building plots People will have a new ‘Right to Build’ – whereby they can formally challenge local authorities that do not provide opportunities or land for self and custom builders As part of the extra £6bn the Government is providing to extend the ‘Help to Buy’ scheme, it is keen to find a way to help self builders qualify for a 20% equity loan too. Welcoming the package, Ted Stevens, Chair of the National Self Build Association (NaSBA) said: “This is the biggest demonstration of Government support the industry had ever had. It could effectively double the sector’s output in a very short period of time, and I’m confident it will lead to a massive increase in people looking to build their own homes”. Full details of how the Right to Build idea will work have not yet been decided and the Government will hold a consultation exercise on this in the summer. If legislation is required to introduce the new measures it could take until 2015 to get this set up; but if it is just a case of adjusting Government policy the new powers could be introduced later this year. NorthamptonBear
Very interesting - do you know if Northampton Borough Council has any plan to introduce self builds? I doubt it. But they may be FORCED to - but it will be by community groups and only where the current residents are happy about it. So probably meaningless for most people. Could form a group and then find an eyesore that the locals want shot of. Any eyesores? Not sure of the means the council has - compulsory purchase? An extra 38 houses on the other side of the road would just add more misery.

Hecto
£147,500.00 for a a smallish victorian mid terrace in Semilong seems a a bit optimistic even if it has been refurbished. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-4553531.html The house next door, appears to have had its roof covered with solar panels on top of replacement concrete tiles which are already considerably heavier than the original slate roof.
