I don't know why other youngsters don't follow suit and evacuate the sinking ship of UK plc if they've got skills other countries need and want. They can offer so much more than a mediocre survival existence.

its kinda ironic that most people are moaning about the Brits they left behind only caring about money yet most of the tales of good fortune being posted are about - shock - how much financially better off they are! No different really are you!

Its pointless trying to defend the UK in such a thread but I will just say that as a youngster (well <30 is that still young? lol!) in London im having a great time, maybe that will change, maybe it wont - who knows. I think im lucky though as Ive never really bought into commercialism so that ensures I have plenty of disposable income and dont feel under financial pressure

Apparently its 37 in Oz right now, according to the tennis reports lol, is that really a pleasent temperature? Gimme rain any day :D! Everywhere has its pros and cons, go to the place that suits you, personally I wouldnt want to leave my family/friends but then from the sounds of things most people that have gone lead pretty lonely miserable lives anyway, a new start is probably a good thing, but thats less to do with the UK and more to do with your own lives imo. Its perfectly possible to enjoy living in the UK - I manage it :)!

Good luck.

It's not the money, it's the standard of living; but when you live under a bridge, I guess that's pretty much the same the world over.

If there was a house price crash in New Zealand, I would be tempted to return home.

However, currently I am far better off in the UK. NZ has income multiples similar the UK and much higher IR's than the UK. No crash happened there when IR's rose, even though it now takes much more of your income to buy a house than it does in the UK. Prices are still rising slowly, with the predicted crash of epic proportions never occuring.

We still have a long way to go before a crash occurs in the UK.

Interesting observation. Supports my increasing view that only a full recessionary environment with the associated job losses and "batten down the hatches mentality" will break the back of this market. When / if this occurs it will probably be a global phenomenon, which explains why NZ is holding up for the moment.

Return to the UK? Not likely.

I kept my house there for 7 years thinking I might return but its just in the last throws of being sold now.

Perhaps there will be a crash perhaps not but the long distance landlord thing was just not worth the hassle.

I've now bought a place here and life is fine and dandy.

No I cant imagine going back now.

Aussie investors and immigrating Poms are keeping NZ propped up..... for now.
