HovelinHove
When housing was removed from inflation statistics it basically guarenteed the bubble we have seen. The idiocy of those who celebrate their property price gains is lain bare by this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3768775/PricedOutLondoner-reveals-everyday-items-cost-value-increased-rate-property.html
billybong
For its own reasons the article focuses on household items and food prices relative to house prices but it's also similar for stuff like transport and clothing etc - that's not to say that price rises on all those items aren't also already very problematic for many people especially when they increase in price like in recent years. So one has to guess that the sort of hidden message in the article is be grateful for small mercies even if those items are getting more and more expensive as time goes on - but none of that alters the fact that house prices are well beyond reasonable to the point of being completely crazy and are helping to destroy the British economy as well as the British way of life (as they used to say). It would be impossible if everything had gone up in price like house prices. Edited September 2, 2016 by billybong

hp72
Some people think that if they pay more for something it must be better..... Well, often if you purchase a consumer good you can pay more for: Design Brand Features Warranty Quality of build Service levels Support If you buy a house, you get less consumer rights than if you buy a toaster. Hmmm. And none of the above are guaranteed/quantifiable.
