Harry Monk
Now, as we all know, Marmite is the yummiest food in the whole wide world. But what is happening with the price of it? The mysterious rollercoaster ride of the cost of a jar of Marmite has continued with its price rocketing 50 per cent in just five months.Last September, This is Money revealed how the price of the iconic 500g glass jar had plunged to £3, compared with its peak of £5 in 2010. Now the price has soared back up to hit £4.50, justifying our warning that Marmite lovers should act fast on hints that the price could be about to rise. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/news/article-2554114/Marmite-lovers-hit-price-rockets-50-just-five-months.html ........................................................................................................ StainlessSteelCat
This is why young people cannot afford houses. They are wasting their money on marmite. I'm always astonished by the price of the stuff as I thought it was effectively a waste product of the brewing industry coupled with large amounts of salt. If beer production is down, there'll be less waste products to make Marmite, hence they can put the price up?
LC1
Have beer sales decreased? If beer production is down, there'll be less waste products to make Marmite, hence they can put the price up? I think this is quite possibly the reason. I was always under the impression, as already mentioned, that it is a byproduct of the brewing industry... And a bloody lovely one at that. Mmmm, Marmite. Guest TheBlueCat
dunno, it's apparently getting a bit of a bad rep in some provinces of canada, along with irn bru. think their legislators need to get out more. That one turned out to be a non-story. Turns out that the shopkeeper who made all the noise was illegally importing meat along with his irn bru and marmite. The customs guys raided his shop and took all his stuff to teach him a lesson as far as I can tell so he went to the press with the marmite being banned guff. The big supermarket chains here all sell marmite although I've never seen irn bru outside of specialist British shops.

Guest TheBlueCat
[/b] Why, they would be Scawtish shops! Lorne Sausage, and Tennents Lager!? Oddly I've not seen any specialist Scottish only shops here - too small a target market at a guess. Lager can mostly only be bought in government controlled stores (varies by province) so that's out too. And Lorne sausage would be problematic too given the meat content.
