A UKIP MEP has been ejected from the European Parliament after directing a Nazi slogan at a German colleague.

Godfrey Bloom said "Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fuehrer" - one people, one empire, one leader - as Martin Schulz was making a speech.

He was ordered out of the chamber and will face disciplinary measures.

Mr Bloom told the BBC he stood by his words, describing the leader of the socialist group in the parliament, as "a national socialist".

Mr Bloom made the comments as Mr Schulz, a member of Germany's Social Democratic Party and leader of the socialist bloc in the Parliament, was speaking during a debate on the economic crisis in the Irish Republic.

President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek told him: "As you know, most of the members of the chamber cannot accept your behaviour. I will therefore ask you to leave the chamber at this point."

Given that Schulz was basically advocating the EU dictating Irish domestic monetary and fiscal policy as a condition of the non-optional bailout, I'd say that while indiscreet, Bloom had indeed 'made the case'.

Meh, cartoon nonsense.

Why didn't he do the whole John Cleese, with a forefinger across the upper lip and goose steps across the chamber, instead of trying to disguise the salute with a "time out" gesture? Funny that he speaks French. And it's pathetic slagging off the Germans when they're encouraging a market for their citizens to earn money and save.

Indeed.

The very act of ejecting him for pointing out fascism in action makes his case more eloquently than he himself did.

The EUSSR will not stand for dissention. Far from cartoon nonsense it's painfully obvious. All he did was hold up the mirror.

Given the vast democratic deficit that sees unelected or barely elected EU figures no one's ever heard of dictating policy to us all, I think taking the piss and arsing about in their presence is acceptable.

I've no problem accepting it, but he's not exactly Edmund Burke. These clowns are all show and no conviction - if the world burned down around them they would still be crowing on their little green patch.

I voted for UKIP in the last GE because my candidate spoke more sense than the others. Overall, I can't see the party sustaining itself, because it doesn't work on principles.
