You never baited anyone, just that you could never give answers to questions or points raised. <_<

Never have I heard anyone say that this board.

Although I did give an example of our builder's brother quoting for a job and when he went back to her, she'd got a Polish team in to do the work instead but then that's racist to give such an example isn't Joe!

My newsagent in fact a friend and an occasional practice client had a total refurb of what is now a licensed convenience store, on which he and his wife have worked very very hard and diligently.

Surveyor?: Asian Indian:

Shopfitters? Asian Indian:

Same with my chemist: charming Asian chaps (Two) lovely helpful people and "Chums".

They had a complete re-design and refit.

Surveyor? Asian:

Project Manager? Asian:

Shopfitters? Asian.

Now if I only employed contractors of WASP ethnicity, then I could be called racist and could even be prosecuted!

Please bear in mind that a job applicant doesn't have to have the benefit of even an interview: yet if they can "Prove" Racial Discrimination, then the employer can be fined an unlimited amount.

And has been many times.

Such as the case of the gentleman of Indian extraction who made a nice business of purposively applying for jobs in his own name, Patel; and a peusdonym "Brown" and when he was not called for interview as "Patel" but was as "Brown" (Identical true CVs), sued: and won; repeatedly.

On his last adventure, he was formerly instructed he was to be treated as "A vexatious litigant".

Never?

After he had amassed circa £250,000 tax free (Damages do not fall to tax under any Tax Schedule).

Yet if I, a WASP, suffer Unfair, Wrongful or other dismissal, the maximum amount I can receive, under statute is derisory.

Equality?

Don't make me larf!

I just ate lunch!

Gagh. I'm sorry, but the ignorant misuse of words really gets on my nerves. 'Prejudice' just means 'judging before', i.e. before you know all the relevant facts. It is entirely possible to be 'prejudiced' toward someone who amuses you, especially if you decide early on that the fact they amuse you makes their opinions invalid. Prejudice isn't always a bad thing, either.

You are so wrong that I do not know where to start. But Rogets Thesaurus seems an obvious point:

prejudice

noun

An inclination for or against that inhibits impartial judgment: bias, one-sidedness, partiality, partisanship, prepossession, tendentiousness.

Irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular group, race, or religion: bigotry, intolerance.

verb

To cause to have a prejudiced view: bias, jaundice, prepossess, warp.

To spoil the soundness or perfection of: blemish, damage, detract from, disserve, flaw, harm, hurt, impair, injure, mar, tarnish, vitiate.

I think that you actually mean prejudgement - but in future, it will probably be a good idea if you actually find out what a word means before you start criticising other peoples use of it...... :P:P

I've found that my Indian friends and colleagues in the UK are invariably devout Tory's.

My point is, you as a Brit, have little chance of getting a residency permit in these other countries, let alone a work permit. A vote? Whaaat? No chance! A place of worship representing your own religion. Best try and keep your head.

It seems a one way street to me.

I think it's no wonder that many Brits, particularly from places like London are feeling so disaffected and unrepresented by their political masters, sorry servants . . . oh no, masters . . . I was right the first time.

At the same time, will you please kick the British government out of foreign affairs and stop dropping bombs on people just because they [govt] don't like these peoples cultures and way of life. If there's a problem it's up to them to sort it out. Not you.

Y'know PAG, I find that there is too much generalisation in these reports stating immigrants benefit the community. I would agree... with certain conditionals: always have conditionals in my specialist area, as we don't like to brush with broad strokes... too many mistakes that way ;) .Immigrants can:

1)speak the language of the UK

2) are qualified in a job useful to the UK - There isn't much call for a goat herdsman here.

3) Can support themselves fore 2 years as regards health/ rent requirements.

4) not take a job which leaves a British worker without one.

I don't care WHAT colour they are or where they come from, as long as these conditions are in place - as they are in most of the Western world countries, who have better pop. densities than England has - I hasten to add!

I would like to know what is xenophobic about this, as these liberalistas on here just want to shout me down and insult me when I raise these issues. I'd love to see them get away with that, with the likes of David Dimbleby, Paxman or even the late, great, Robin Day!!

Another thing I find too, is that these rigidly held beliefs have no basis in common sense or sound economics: They have been told it isn't 'naice' to object to immigrants and anyone who does must be castigated, bullied and verbally abused. and the poor blighters have swallowed it whole: lock, stock and barrel.

As to the shortcomings in Health and Education. I can't wait till some of these guys - I am willing to bet that most of them are childless as yet - have kids who go to school when they will find what many hard-working contributors to the public purse have found. That their kids are getting an impoverished education, compared to 40 years ago - due to the "come one - come all" policy of the Nu.Lab. crew.

Also when they get older and need more frequent hospital care, let's see how they cope with being left in as corridor to die on a trolley - due to lack of beds - as a gent I knew did recently. :( Let's see how they cope with the long waiting lists and the substandard service from hospital workers.( eg My friend woke in the night after an op. and asked for two paracetamol - as she can't take other pain killers: She reacts badly to them. She was given two pills - by a nurse who spoke pigeon English - only to awake later ,doubled up in pain. she had been given CoCodamol!! :o The thing was that this piece of info. was written across the top of her chart, which was freely available... to those who can read English, that is.)

I feel fairly smug that me and my ilk (24/7 carers) are saving this country enough dosh to run a 2nd NHS, so I am not too thrilled that when me and mine need the NHS - I get poor service. Gorgo is probably spending it on some crackpot scheme or other.

As to NIMBY characteristics of previously hot-to-trot liberalistas. This story is a killer. My son had a mate who followed the well-worn trendy-left path: ie. Hated Americans and America and always was bleating on about what a shame that Muslims get a raw deal here in the UK and how he could understand their penchant for terrorism.

Wait for it.... He now live in AMERICA and is married to an AMERICAN girl. Hmmm. interesting. I fully expect this tale to be disparaged and considered a tall story but it is perfectly true.

I guess he grew up and found out he'd been spouting Marxist drivel all these years. B)

When realist bites in the form of personal experience, all these high-flown, pie-in-the-sky, ideals go out the window.

"Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive" William F. Buckley, Jr (American Writer, b.1925)

PS PAG - The Asian business men I knew in the North west, felt the same way. Tories to a man!

Pond321 10:02am: 'I am not prejudiced against you. I view you in the same way that I view Victor Meldrew in 'One Foot In The Grave' I bet he read the mail and ranted about 'bl00dy foreigners' all the time. Thus you actually amuse me and I could not be prejudiced against someone that amuses me'.

Erm because Victor's character wouldn't do that, it would have been Alf Garnet hence I suggested (gently) that you got the sitcom and character wrong.

And you were replying to AJ not me, but I thought i'd gently point out your knowledge of media characters is quite frankly, wrong! ;)

It's OK, I won't bother next time and you'll be safe in your ignorance. :)

This is obviously a bit tricky for you to try to get your head around. Guess you only understand things that are black and white (hah hah)?

Anyhow, let me try to explain. Victor Meldrew was an old codger who moaned about everything. Aunt Jess is a 'senior' lady* who moans about everything. I found Victors moaning detached from reality, thus humorous, and I find Aunt Jesses moaning detached from reality, thus humorous.

Comprehendez?

Well, the other stuff aside, this is a start. How does it it compare to current UK immigration policy?

Thailand is way stricter than what you've listed there. Remember also we have no recourse to anything, few rights in fact, other than to dump cash in this place. I accept that. Ain't complaining. Just think think the UK situation needs balancing.

Probably is a call for goats herdsmen by the way, lost many old skills has the UK and may need to get them back sometime soon. Who knows?

At least let's discuss this as adults rather than angry ideologues on both sides.

Guess I might as well throw my tuppence in:

I don't think the issue is what colour people are. The issue is Britain seems to bend over backwards for those of a non-British culture, potentially to the detriment of the indigenous population in our schools.

Totally agree, but sad to say that is how I stated off - making such comments - and look what I get thrown at me. insults, some really nasty, sexist and/or ageist, but that's OK - innit, cos only RACism matters.

I don't mind too much, as you will note that silly schoolboy insults are ALL I get. No reasoned debate or evidence that I am wrong. I think Hell will have frozen over before I get a - sensible - answer to MY questions. <_<

They dont like it up em

A Labour MP has reacted with fury after he and his wife were ordered into separate rooms at a Muslim wedding. Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar and Canning Town in east London, and his wife Sheila left the wedding at the London Muslim Centre after they were told it was strictly segregated.

The minister for food and farming was told that his wife would have to move into a separate room, and walked out of his constituents' wedding, claiming the strict Islam rule was affecting 'social cohesion'

Well I've had a few argument with the old crone, but generally she speaks from personal experience.

Would care to cite any examples of where she is detached from reality. It might just be that what she has experienced does not chime with the world view you have created for yourself.

My OH's cousin lives here in the UK with his Thai wife. She can speak the language and runs her own business.Would that all immigrants were thus inclined. Many of the Asians I knew up North were similar, but they were immigrants from a few decades ago. Then the regulations were stricter.

As to those who purport to bre fleeing from, say, the Middle-East and its medieval theocracy. Witness the French and the Germans, who stayed in their own country after the war and rebuilt it - minus the ghastly dictatorship qualities.

They did not roll up to our 'front door' bleating that they had been done down and needed to seek - permanent - safe haven here. They bluddy rolled up their sleeves and got on with it.

Well, for a start we need to look at the immigration regulations and how they are applied. Then we need to move on to the numbers split into who, from where, to where, doing what, under which visa, on welfare?, etc.

From this we may just get a real picture of what is genuinely going on and what the facts are.

Without this, all arguments are based on anecdotal evidence, which althougn it plays a part, is not sufficient in itself.

Asia is also in real crisis right now. Many out here are looking to move to the West, for work, not benefits as that's never been in their culture, well here at least. I fear for them. There will be no work, or there will be gang masters, pimps and other horrors and perhaps no way of getting home.

I had a similar experience about six years ago AJ. My wife was rushed into hospital, she was extremely ill (ended up having to have a kidney removed). So there we were, wife in great pain and distress and both of us enormously worried when along comes a nurse barely able to utter a word of English. She made a laughable attempt to take some details from us, writing with the speed and dexterity of a four year old and asking how to spell almost every single word. In the end I took the form from her and filled it out myself.

Thankfully, the surgeon who removed her kidney was a Brit. I was seriously concerned it might turn out to be another pidgeon English speaking immigrant who might remove the wrong kidney because he couldn't read the form properly.

So wrong on so many fronts. It has got to be enormously dangerous having people with this level of English working in hospitals. And who wants to deal with that kind of sh1t when you're ill and distressed?

Love to see Blair suffer a heart attack and see how he felt about receiving that kind of treatment but of course he'll get some nice chap speaking perfect English.

Oh, and thank God for the Daily Mail and the Express, hey. If it weren't for them then all the lefties would probably be telling us with a straight face that there is no immigration.

Always amuses me how much the lefties hate the Daily Mail - they're positively terrified of it. Much nicer to have a world where all the papers agree with them.

I'd agree in the generallity. The specifics are a bit restrictive on British business.

For example, with point 4 - If the circumstances arise, why I should be compelled to hire a British worker? If an immigrant is qualified as per point 2 and moreover is better for the job, then it harms the business, the shareholders, and potentially all the employees of that business, if I'm forced to hire somebody less good instead. If a British worker isn't good enough I think our country is better off not using them. The solution is to train the British worker so he is good enough. Guaranteed jobs irrespective of ability simply makes people spongers.

Point 1 is similarly a constraint on a business' freedom. Suppose I am happy to hire an immigrant (in the circumstances as above) on the basis that they will learn the language to a standard comparable to the average of the indiginous population. As with above if they have sufficiently good other attributes it damages the company not to be allowed to do so.

I'm sorry if people think that harsh. I'm from an environment where poor performers get fired. I'm not advocating completely turning ones back on the less capable British worker, I accept its my duty to pay the taxes necessary in order to look after them.

Hardly a surprise.

I.e. the cupid stunt knows f-all about Islam so when he gets confronted with it he gets mad.

I mean, hello.......................?

Actually, that segregation is yet another cultural piece of **** that found its way into Islam. Segregation during an event like that is preposterous, it is not a prayer and AFAIK I don't recall seeing such a stipulation in the Qu'ran. Now I'm not an expert or a practising person but from what I can see, the brand of Islam that exists today is overly influenced by Arab superstitution and culture...

A couple of years back I was at a technology fare in Earls Court. One of the days was given over to kids, so schools sent lots of coaches up.

I remember I got speaking to a little girl from normal England. (this was the days before your were instantly branded a pedo if you went within 100 yards of a child) and I asked her if she was enjoying herself.

She told me No with a very annoyed face. She explained that she couldn't get near any of the exhibits because it was so packed. I agreed it was very busy.

Then she said "most of the children here are from another country, its stupid them coming all the way here, they don't even speak English, so how can they enjoy this"

Little did she know those kids had travels not nearly as far as she had. I think it was that moment I knew I had to leave London before I had kids of my own.

And yes, I've lived in London for 10+years. I don't need any leftie spin thank you very much. I can see with my own eyes that anywhere that even looks like it might vote Tory suddenly has a huge block of council flats put up in it, and then filled with immigrants. Immigration is of the charts here, while some work, and very great number don't.

Interestingly I can tell a similar tale. Of a friend who in 1985 sent her- then - toddler to a local nursery school/playgroup.( This in an Area of Bolton in the North West called 'Little Pakistan', for reasons soon to become clear) She herself was a teacher with a Masters in Special Needs.

Her daughter came home from these nursery sessions, speaking in Urdu, as this is what the majority of the kiddies in the nursery were speaking. She removed her - not because she objected to the other kiddies race - as certain idiots on here will claim - but because she wanted her to grown up learning to speak her native tongue - as she was in her own country.

She had to take her to another nursery, travelling some miles to do so, where the kids were mainly English-speaking.

Having said that, my niece went to live in Wales and accepted that her kids were taught in Welsh AND English - as they lived in WALES. Another lived in France and also accepted that French be taught to her kids. I guess it is only racist if you are a Brit - to want your kids to speak the 'Queen's English'.

In Arabic countries you get a lot of segregation. Womens days at swimming pools, mens and womens banks, mosques and even separate house entrances in some countries. Even Arabic social networking sites have segregation. So for this to come as a suprise to a government minister who actively supports the growth of Islam in the UK is either criminally negligent or wilfully naive.

It is rich only insofar as the taxes from the sweat of the worker's brows as it were. That this govt - or any group of politicians - can squander this hard-earned cash is a treachery too much to stand, IMO.

We don't have fantastic mineral resources like the Arab states of Oz or the US.

Our wealth comes from the workers and if there are more folk taking money out of the pot than putting in...well work it out. On a microcosmic level that is a person's home budgeting, more must come in than goes out - Even Mr. Pickwick had that one nailed.

Quite, back in the days I was running my business looking back out of all the people I employed about 1/3rd were White males, another 3rd White Females and another 3rd various darkies.

I didn't employ any one of them for their race or gender, prejudiced didn't come near it. I simply sat in the interviews thinking will this person make me more money than the other people I have seen.

If I had wanted to be prejudice it would have hit me in the pocket, quite unacceptable for a businessman.
