Cynically I'd say it was a cost cutting exercise. You'll get next to nowt redundancy if you've not been there long (look up legal minimum) so weigh that up against not getting the bonus and being laid off anyway. I'd say take the bonus and look for another job ASAP. There's a formal notice of impending redundencies they're supposed to issue first - rather than just being arsey about it.
