  1. Watched it too with the better half and some of my comments were greed doing it in their style rather than what would make profits changing the job half way through so that shows me just how amateur they were
  2. So people are finally waking up to the fact that London soaks up a disproportionate amount of Englands money. Congratulations. Now do something about it. Labour will never allow an independent Scotland as it would be a very long time before they regain power. I have said before I want Scotland to be independent (even if it costs me money). I feel it allows a more nimble central government who can actually implement policies that make a difference. Applying a one policy fits all in the UK doesn't work, we can all see that (I hope).
  3. Get him to start looking in Aberdeen, easy commute, he will be inundated with offers
  4. Spending a lot of time in Norway myself at the moment (and dealing with FMC in Kongsberg). The quality of life is superb and there is no comparison in work-life balance to here.
  5. Think you may have a point re. getting darker but I think it is going to be a long winter for the UK in general.
  6. The fixed prices are higher because people have been out bidding each other over the past year abd people have been paying silly prices like everywhere else. This I feel is coming to an end as the no. of buyers is drying up. Sentiment I think changed slightly when Shell decided not to build their HQ campus thing a few months ago. So the houses will probably still have the same offers over they will just no longer go for silly inflated prices.
  7. Bank tried to get me into bonds yesterday, the woman seemed quite shocked when I said I wanted to keep every thing cash (said I was about to buy a house ), may put 10% in gold for the long term (or forever)
  8. British firms didn't have to sign up to Sarbennes Oxley did they?* the US financial institutions will have had to comply with it, could be some serious court cases in the offing. *I am not sure
  9. I live in the city centre of Aberdeen and love it, but there are new developments on the outskirts of the centre (the beach especially) that I think thank goodness I don't live there. Horrible looking development and very big too.
  10. I am also zero debt, never owned a property though. Rent but am happy. Better half has her own place but wants us to buy a bigger place together next year when her tie in runs out. Seriously think we will be jumping on a sinking ship and am worried.
  11. I thought you had to buy as seen at an auction or do they provide some sort of survey guarantee?
  12. Wow, if it's true that no-one is wanting to underpin the dollar then it's a long way down
  13. Gordon has a moving in date for no. 10, he no longer cares about the economy as it's the next chump who will take the blame.
  14. Vote for an independent England then, or stop whinging.
  15. So last years btl in spain will become next years social housing. wonder if it will happen here?
  16. 10% deposit 1%+ stamp duty 1%+ solicitors fees Starting to add right up
  17. And does anyone know what their rpi and cpi has been?
  18. Saw another article which highlighted the desperation of some people. Some bloke in London wanted people to give him money to buy a house then the hightest donor would get the rental income from the spare room for the first year. Fair play to the bloke for trying but I can't see it working.
  19. Was in the bank today sorting something out and was twice asked 'do you want a mortgage?' I replied 'Have you seen prices in Aberdeen?' both times they agreed that Aberdeen was overpriced currently.
  20. Speaking to a guy I know who is having to leave his work owned house in Aberdeen. Just bought. It was offers over £119000 and he offered £188000, second was £500 less. Don't know what the house was valued at.
  21. Norway for me, unless by some miracle the SNP gain control of the Scottish parliament on May 5th. Whether I would be better off in an independent Scotland is something that could be argued but even if I was worse off I wouldn't mind one bit paying my extra share compared to the current theft from London for London.
