  1. Didn't the Spanish already take our wind turbine sector over? Not surprising really, I visit Spain a lot. Up high there are Wind Turbines pretty much everywhere. I remember that I visited Wales and someone was telling me that the Wind Turbines on the coast weren't built by British Engineers, but South African ones they brought in. Hell they want to build a 'Solar farm' near me, not going to be a British company doing the work instead it will be German.
  2. Didn't David and Vince already sell us down the river anyway?
  3. Ireland ... How Did They Go From "3Rd World To Industrial"? It seems they did it by spending other peoples money, those crafty Irish.
  4. Ok, ok, when. What can I say, I'm not feeling optimistic today.
  5. Doesn't look like people have learnt anything from reading that thread, people were happily telling the poor individual that they could borrow up to 500k to buy somewhere. The way they said it was like it was simply monopoly money or something. Some people are going to be royally screwed if this house of cards falls down.
  6. Good programme, I found myself walking up and down my shoebox attempting to vent how stupid the people in charge had been. Only thing I really didn't agree on is privatising the NHS, as soon as he said 'insurance' it made me shiver.
  7. The letting agent on my previous place was telling me they were putting the rent up for the next tenant, felt sorry for them (the renter, not the agent) but a lot of people round that area were 'on the Uni as it were'. Most of my information now is hearsay over the coffee table with colleagues who are renting, there general consensus is that Cambridge is getting more expensive rather than cheaper. Someone recently moved to that place near the station, they are putting up an eye watering £900 pcm. Madness. (Sorry for the thread hijack, I'll shut up now)
  8. Yep they are, Cambridge; always defying convention. I start shaking when I remember living in a 1 bedroom flat with rotting wooden windows, shoddy electric heating & a bad case of damp (washed & painted over it before I moved out so they wouldn't charge me) for £725 just off Histon Road. Anyway, tell em to get bent or just ignore it (like you are).
  9. So Ireland, the new retirement/holiday home capital for Europe? Seems we're getting capitals for everything in Europe now; Germany for Secondary Industry, Britain for Tertiary & Quaternary industry, Ireland for shipping you off to when you're spent.... Nah, I think I'm being far too cynical.
  10. Looks like a good place to retire. Myself, I went to America - Miami, didn't think a lot of it to be honest. Everyone else seems to rant and rave about the place though, South Beach especially. Could have taken a job there with the company I work for, but it didn't do anything for me, especially with the 10 days holiday and instant dismissal lark. Guess I'm just a little Englander at heart. I suppose the great thing about America is that it is such a vast country with so many different states there is something for everyone. Might show this to some of my mates, they've been talking about moving to the ex-colonies as of late.
  11. I did a sandwich course, it was only a simple role doing IT support, after I finished my University pretty much gave up on the idea as companies didn't want the hassle of interviewing so many candidates, oh and it cost them money. Shame really.
  12. First post so go easy on me. 25 year old working in the same industry as everyone else (it seems) - IT, doing Test Engineering. On around 18k after taxes, renting (from the bank) a 2 bed terrace somewhere in Cambridgeshire mainly through my savings and with a grant from the previous administration for 'Essential workers' or some gumfph. 100k mortgage, saving around £250 a month. I get to have a good time, and do my own thing. Company I work for has tightened its belt, no pay rises and my promotion was blocked until mid-next year, I consider myself very lucky, most of my friends live at home and still seem to be skint at the end of every month, although they are constantly moving to new employers. All in all I live a pretty frugal life, go out maybe once or twice a month, budget for everything. I think I am coming to the point whether I stay in the UK or go, my parents live in Spain, but unemployment is very bad over there, so I reckon if I left it would be to somewhere outside of Europe. My parents current advice is stick with it until late 20's then move as I'll have the savings (hopefully) and lots of experience, not sure at the moment. From reading some of these posts (and in the other 'Over 35s thread'), there seems to be an awful lot of well paid people in the UK, just a shame I'm not one of them! But, seriously I have done labour for £2.50, worked from 7am to 8-9pm everyday (including weekends) when I was younger so I know how lucky I am to be able to sit at my desk on my lunch break and type this out, but of course I want more, I think that is natural. I don't, however want to be paid thousands of pounds for old rope, just want what I think I'm worth (and no, I don't think I'm paid what I'm worth at the moment, but you can't have it all!).
