  1. Why post here if you don't know what you are talking about? Will Hutton is not the editor of the Guardian (Alan Rusbridger is). Will Hutton is not a proprty speculator (his wife is).
  2. Cor - listen to you lovey - you're snarling and acting tough like a good 'un. This interweb things good isn't it? - you know - anonymity plus audience = fackwad! Take it easy poppet! I'm 100% with Renterbob on this - it's just a game and now the buyer is winning the game - the poor sensitive little EA had it good for a while and now he hasn't - oh dear - that's how it is.
  3. I know someone who commutes from York to London daily. Ayatollah - extraordinary! What time do they get up? What time do they get back home? That's, what? a three hour journey to King's Cross isn;t it? Poor chap - as it says in the article, great opportunity to catch up on some reading!
  4. I'll bump too - but read this link from the Telegraph as a teaser for while you wait. Journalist guy bought a house off his mate for £200k and did it up - sold recently and after all the costs and hassle and generally tough times he made £6k profit - when he factored in his loss of earnings from his regular job he was in the same condition as the house at the time he bought it - gutted! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/main.j...7/pslump117.xml
  5. I would agree with OP - it is eye-watering when taken in context, i.e. the amounts people have to borrow to actually buy property.
  6. Here it is! http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/mortgages/art...mp;in_page_id=8
  7. I'd paste some here but it's a pdf and I can't be asked to type them - great bear food! RICS_Housing_Market_Survey_May2008.pdf RICS_Housing_Market_Survey_May2008.pdf
  8. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/investing-and...=moretopstories Wonder if the underwriters will be trying to wriggle out of this one a la the B&B experience?
  9. Wow - great err... why were they saying "the worst is over"?
  10. I've got a fair amount in a bond with them...if the RI goes through with a decent take up then I'll feel comfortable. Surely it's too big to fail? (and too big to bail...)
  11. Thanks chaps for your comments - bathroom is not the best I admit! Won't be sorry to have done with it. Yep - I know it ain't over until it's over. We'll be renting in Boston, Lincs due to work commitments for both of us - the plan is to buy back in 2010 in CR2 again. We'll see! - Ron
  12. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-176...=1&tr_t=buy Admittedly in a very good area. We're going to rent now because at the time of writing the price slippage reported in many other areas and borne out by all the data is just not happening in CR2...
  13. Still no link to the actual words "Houseprices will drop more sharply than previously imagined" ?? This thread gives hard facts a bad name - right?
  14. ! We are waiting for May's figures - 8am
  15. http://www.fool.co.uk/money-talk/property-...uoofolrf0010001 From the Motley Fool website. Hope this helps.
  16. Broadly I suppose if you want to put that degree of analysis on it then you are right - personally it bores the sh1t out of me and I'm going out to see Deborah Mullins who I understand has now arrived.
  17. This is so unrelated to HPC I think I want to dye my trousers purple and borrow a packet of spangles from my friend Trevor Fitsall.
  18. Nothing on the six o'clock news on radio 4 either - very strange - don't have a tv myself - was there anything on the news on BBC1? I remember when Halifax announced -2.5% mom at the end of March the media went ballistic - now nothing. I don't generally do conspiracy theories, but it does seem as though someone as had a little word with the editors...
  19. The Bairstow Eves in Hamsey Green, which is between Warlingham and Sanderstead in the London Borough of Croydon has closed - the notice advises people that they should make inquiries to their Sanderstead office. I expect the Sanderstead office to close soon in any case, and the notice in their window will advise people to use the Selsdon branch no doubt. On the subj of Bairstow Thieves, here's Robert Peston on the refinancing of the parent company Countrywide - fascinating stuff - Ron http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/ro...nt_shocker.html
  20. http://www.nationwide.co.uk/hpi/ try -2.5% mom
  21. From his site : TIP OF THE DAY "Always visit a property before you buy it!" ?????????????????????????
