Number of companies going bust hits 30-year high
Bruce Banner replied to fellow's topic in House prices and the economy
I ran my business with a positive cash flow so no debt necessary. Suppliers were happy to offer 90 days EOM terms, because we always paid on time and customers were happy to pay us on 30 days EOM terms, because we always delivered product that worked first time, on time. -

Companies that run on debt are vulnerable at the best of times. These are not the best of times. -

Aircraft and cars are different as you need a licence to operate one. As for boilers, I service my own. I'm not qualified, but I do know what I'm doing. It's hardly rocket science. -

I'm pretty much against mandatory qualifications to do anything, except perhaps medical services, but even there I don't want to be told that I can't engage the services of a witch doctor if I so desire. -
Rwanda plan threatens to put UK in breach of legal obligations, says ECHR (ft.com) Rishi Sunak and ECHR chief clash over 'pyjama injunctions' against Rwanda flights | Evening Standard Rishi Sunak on Thursday rejected a demand from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) president that Britain comply with any 11th-hour intervention by judges against his Rwanda deportation plan. The Prime Minister is pushing through legislation empowering his Government to ignore any "Rule 39" orders from the Strasbourg court over his plan to send some asylum seekers and economic migrants who cross the Channel in “small boats” to Rwanda. But Siofra O’Leary, the Irish president of the ECHR, told a news conference: “There is a clear legal obligation under the convention for states to comply with Rule 39 measures." The court only intervenes with such urgent measures when there is a "real and imminent risk of irreparable harm", and noted that Britain had "always" complied with past rulings. She stressed that the UK Government had itself argued that Russia should comply with Rule 39 measures in relation to the release of anti-Kremlin politician Alexei Navalny in 2021, and last year over the fate of UK nationals detained by Russian forces in Ukraine.

The suggestion that conscription might become a reality is likely to focus the minds of the young to get out and vote against this shambles of a government. Britons 'face call-up if we go to war with Russia': Head of the Army will tell ministers troops numbers are so low he would need 'to find more people' if Putin's war in Ukraine escalated and public's 'mindset' must change so they are ready | Daily Mail Online

If you can't win by fair means... Voter ID rules could be seen to benefit Tories, says UK elections watchdog (ft.com) The voter ID system was first introduced under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the local elections in England in May last year. The government allows 22 forms of ID, including rail cards, for older people, who are more likely to vote Conservative, while similar cards for young people, who typically lean towards Labour, are not permitted.
