Hi all over the last week my place of work has been raided by the police apprantly looking for immigrants ie false passports, names and work permits over the period of 3 days they have found 38 all with false work permits now of course the company are saying that the forgerys are that good that they can not tell the real ones from the false ones which could be true in some cases but most cases i dont think so i mean who in their right mind is going to believe that a guy from albania is called albert and someone from iraq first name ali second name butcher give me a break.

Well the reason im wrighting this is that i have noticed a lot of adverts on the radio warning that the employer is responable for checking all the permits of their employees and then we got raided just wondered if anybody else has experianced anything similer recently and whether this could have an effect on the housing market ie on monday 38 people paying their rent on tuesday gone a lot of houses empty, now if the goverment are tightening the screws and starting to do this all over the country thats going to be an hell of a lot of houses left empty.

There was a mailshot to most businesses indicating that this would happen about a month or 2 ago. The burden of proof is, according to the Home Office, on the employer to ensure that they are not illegal which is naturally right since the Home Office are incapable of wiping thier own ar$e.

Large hotel in Harrogate where my g/f works has been checking its staff's credentials and has had to sack about dozen of them as their visas had expired........Previously they didn't bother as the onus was on the employee to abide by the law

"Illegal Aliens" have formed part of the economy of the US for decades. Similarly, they are part of the economy here now and NuLabour will do nothing other than token raids to stop the process. Gordon MUST, at all costs, keep wages suppressed and HPI-MEW moving forward or the economy collapses. We are dependent on foreign cheap labour to keep the unions cowered and those who elected NuLabour happy--BTLers, mortgage dealers, EAs, the City, debt companies, McDonalds, Casinos, Legal Brothels and all those other industries that have thrived under Gordon's miracle economy.

schadenfreude abounds here.

im genuinely sad for the people who lost their jobs. all they want is the right to work and make a little money like everyone else.

no gloating frmio me that some poor b.astard's life has been turned upside down overnight and might find himself homeless.

What if I was caught working under the table with false papers in say, the USA, and they found me out?

Wouldn't it simply be a case of 'fair cop, guv'?

Or should I feel really hard done by about it?

I'm very sorry that some of these people have endured corrupt post-communist bandit governments but why should there be any special sympathy for people who's first interaction with a country is to first break its immigration laws and then it's employment laws? Is it good to have a large mass of people around who are willing to break any law that blocks their path?

Eh? What's that got to do with it?

So you take a right-libertarian view of 100% free movement of people. If someone turns up with no papers and an employer wants to pay them bread and water to work that's a contract between too sovereign individuals and let them get on with it?

I'm saying if they are caught in the country illegally they should be sent back to the place from whence they came.

RB, I'm aware that many restaurants pay foreign workers under the table (I'm an accountant - restaurants are not my sector but I know people who do cover these businesses). I've heard it would be almost impossible for a normal restaurant to exist in most of SE England without paying cash.

My interest in the subject is this - does the governement turn an official blind eye? Do VAT inspections (which are pretty common in the sector) never pick up on cash not recorded as sales?

Ah, the old two bill pads. Even they will be lucky if they have a VAT visit every 5 years. Myself two VAT visits in 19 years.

Just highlighting that you saw something that wasn't there - suggesting to me a pre-disposition.

Everyone has an aversion to foreigners - some are able to rationalise it away and never get to

feel it fully. But given the right circumstances it will come to the forefront.

I wonder how you would feel if your whole community lost its indigenous population and your child

was being taught in a school of predominately foreign children.

That's what is happening in certain parts of this country - and the PROBLEM is getting worse.

Wouldn't know. Never been to the Isle of Skye.

Does it matter, except to those who feel threatened by their own insecurities and lack of ability?

and the most eloquent and rational way you can find to express your 'aversion' is state they smell and are black

pathetic

I have no knee jerk aversion to foreigners; I married one and i think you'll find theres a few posting here (how dare they........)

Please don't think you can tell me how I 'really' feel or presuppose that your bigotry is in any way reflected in my thought processes
