Claim: A leaked government report warned that schools and hospitals will struggle to cope with an influx of people from eastern Europe.

Reality: Immigrants make up 8 per cent of the workforce but contribute 10 per cent of the UK's GDP. Ernst & Young reports they are net tax contributors - rather than a burden - to the public purse, easing the pensions bill through tax...

But what proportion of their net income do they spend back into the UK economy, not half as much as the indigenous population do! Secondly, a large proportion of African immigrants, legal and illegal have diseases which cost tens, or hundreds of thousands of pounds to treat each individual, sometimes over their remaining lifetime, such as Aids, Hepatitis, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Yellow Fever to name but a few. Thirdly, most immigrants work full time and silly extra hours to earn more money, this further distorts the figures as the GDP is calculated on the overall workforce figure and does not take into account part time workers usually mothers / carers when calculating who pays what. A full time carer is far more valuable to the British economy than a dozen immigrants when you consider the cost, of caring for someone in a residential home, may be several hundred or thousand pounds a day. Once again, flawed anecdotal evidence, which an educated person, can easily disseminate.
