Converted Lurker
Bit a bit of a heads up on this one..the blog was successful due to putting up a variety of articles, warts and all, and allowing the blogger guys (including me) to discuss the headlines. In fact you often would find bloggers operating in there who would not be part of the normal forum posters The subtle change, whilst directing traffic and awareness to your sites, may alientate a few of the guys. As I say your ball, but if it`s not broken...
munimula
Totally agree. I use the blog on a daily basis to get a round up of news. It is not the place to put advertising. 'Petrol prices to hit £1...but fear not just go to petrolprices.com and find out cheap petrol prices in your area' 'House prices hit £300K in London...but fear not just go to ourproperty.com to find out prices in you area' Is this what we can expect now? And why doesn't it state the source of the news item anymore? I won't use the facility as it is as I only go to news items from those sources that I'm interested in. Yankee
I agree with the criticisms about the blog. I found this site because of its blog. It used to save me from having to do an extensive search of all the British (and other) news sites about property and related economic news. Since the new buyers came on board (and, actually, before then--but I thought our old Webmaster was on vacation ), the blog has been extremely weak. I'm back to searching the British media. Also, many people post great news links in the forum, but lately these articles aren't getting posted onto the blog. Why not? Posts drop so quickly, it's difficult to catch every news item discussed in the forum. If I start feeling I'm being manipulated on this site (articles only posted for their commercial value to the site, for example), I'm out of here. Not that I would be missed, but I probably represent a lot of other "quiet regulars" here. So new owners: Assign somebody to pay attention to the blog. And don't filter it through a commercial lens. BufferBear Bitcoin Bull
Totally agree too. I rely on the blog for much of my information and feel very uncomfortable with the changes. For me, the juries still out. BTW, WM can I still post stories?
spline
The blog was always really useful, especially when HPC members dug out topical and interesting stuff not directly reported in the mainstream, so it’s sad to see it reduced to an infomercial feed and cluttered up with some quite blatant spam. I suppose we are now officially a property VI.

As not to get more complaints, I would think paulm tried to fill in. I`m sure Webmaster would give any trusted member access to post on the blog. After all not all are around 7/365. The change in the blog was not nec. I can understand if they will no longer put up articles from in2p or firstrung if they feel it`s competition, but to push the petrol prices stuff and our property is an insult to everyone`s intelligence IMHO. rikusmortis
I've got to agree with Lurker. The changes to the blog suck, big time. I don't post often but I read through the articles on the blog every day. If it's going to just turn into one big advert I'll just stop checking it. V. annoyed about the whole thing
spline
I think what alarms me the most is that we appear to be drifting inexorably away from a strong and independent news, information, and discussion site, towards one that shamelessly serves up clicks and keywords for the advertisers and commercial interests. And there is a clearly a risk that the whole thing may unravel and end up as a VI infomercial consumer site with all of us reduced to keyword monkeys. Not an attractive prospect. Ferret
Until they ban me that is... Why would they do that. I would think Webmaster would love to have more blog volunteers, more bloggers searching means lots of very interesting articles posted. Elizabeth
I agree, the infomercials are nauseating, but I come here to post not to bother too much with the blog. Also there is this attitude to Fulbra like it is McDonalds or Halifax or something. I really don't give a toss whether it is Greg, Brendan, Fulbra, or whatever so long as beyond the bit of direct piggy backing for a couple of small business bright ideas they don't start pushing lots of crap at me (I always found ourproperty kinda cute!) Piggy backing off related products (in this case different classes of consumer information) is the way that these small businesses survive. As my family is in the small internet information provider business (not Fulbra! something entirely different - I have no VI!!!), I have to say, I really don't consider one small business with bright ideas taking over another small business with bright ideas to be in the league of a mogul! ("Rupert, just been on the line to Fulbra. There's a chance of getting hold of House Price Crash" ) Although I must say I miss the breadth of the old site, and I miss some of the old posters. The response to an eclectic main board where posters had to mentally devise an relationship between their own hobby horse and housing prices, but where those relationships were sometimes very thinly stretched (tenuous!) actually produced a great deal of creative and interesting posting. The response has been to specialise, but I think this has broken up the impact of having a whole pile of quality posters on the main board, and I actually don't think it is a matter of greater compartmentisation. I think most of our Housing arguements have been done - we know them and longer time posters have probably drawn some conclusion. Now we're just waiting. I would say at least half threads are now started by Trolls attempting to emotionally unhinge any rational bear stance (from uber-bear to wait and see) that doesn't imply "Must rush out, get three quotes and buy a house... that should take a morning, and I'll get my hair done in the afternoon". While we are waiting of course we still need to think about our position in the light of new information but it would be nice to be able to, as it used to be, discuss a wider sphere, without it getting "offed" (using the old and time-honoured principle of "stretching the relationship" ). Just food for thought. Edited April 14, 2006 by Elizabeth
